Lia Croke on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Lia Croke . Check out our conversation below.

Lia , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I am currently mentoring some younger artists and it makes me so proud when I see them doing well. To see them feeling confident, getting bookings, building their brands and truly loving what they do… it brings me so much joy!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Lia Croke Makeup Artistry is a brand that I literally live for! I have put so much of my life into designing this creative space for myself so that I can take the best care of others. Providing a serene experience for my clients with high quality products is of the upmost importance to me. I want each and every client to leave my chair feeling pampered and confident!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child I was always quiet and insecure. I struggled with anxiety and due to that I didn’t do well in school. I barely graduated high school and in turn felt almost like I didn’t have a path and didn’t fit in anywhere. Growing up I enjoyed art and liked makeup and soon stumbled across a school that basically combined both. For once in my life I thought maybe this is something I’d be good at. I excelled and kept going and each compliment, booking, award etc built more and more confidence. I finally found something I really wanted to work hard at. Something that forced me to break away from my previous insecurities. If I could go back in time and give younger Lia some advice it would be to try and step outside of the anxiety and frustration with herself. We are all learning and growing! That part truly never stops and it’s ok if you don’t get it all right away. Listen. Breathe.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Oof what a question! If I’m being honest I feel like there were multiple times I almost gave up on this career. I cannot say it has been an easy journey! In the beginning of all this I believe that the numbers part of owning this business really got to me. I basically just wanted to do the artistry part but there is SO much more to being a business owner. In the beginning of my career the inconsistent income was terrifying. There were times I had worked two jobs just to get by. There was never a guarantee that I could provide for myself by being a makeup artist and that was tough!

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think my closest friends would say that what really matters to me is to fully enjoy life. They know I love to experience everything deeply and with my whole heart. Whether it’s traveling all over the world or just a cozy meal and a glass of wine I just want to feel present and grateful

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Ten years would go by fast so I would literally stop everything and travel. I would want to soak up as much of this beautiful planet as I could.
