We’re looking forward to introducing you to Aaron Corbitt . Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Aaron , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me, as expected for most people, is when we all collectively fight our lifelong battle against gravity and rise from our beds or crypts after slumbering for 6-8 hours. An abnormal day would be when sunlight inverts the visible color spectrum and people walk on their elbows.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, I’m Aaron Corbitt, artist from birth and hopeful warrior against mediocrity. Self styled clown by day, blank canvas stalker by night.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
Not sure if he taught me the MOST, but David Collins taught me to see color differently, and the day long conversations about color theory still resonate in my work to this day. David also taught me the basics of business and how to earn a living as an artist. So maybe he did teach me the most.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Oh yeah, constantly…..and seeing the other side of failure is a good reminder to keep fighting. At a certain point there just isn’t an option to “give up”, you just become a slave to the muse. You owe it to the giants who’ve come before you, and to everyone who has ever helped you on your journey. A true artist is always in a constant state of freedom and bondage. Even if you are in a slump, you still have to create. Even if it’s absolute garbage. It’s necessary to purge the bile, possibly because you were ingesting too much garbage in the first place. So it’s gotta come out one way or another.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
I don’t much care for censorship or the hypocrisy inherent in censorship. And it starts with the self. I protect my inner freedom.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I’d probably stop doing pointless online interviews by questionnaire…….nah I’m just kidding, I’d probably still do em.
