We recently had the chance to connect with Adam Pecora and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Adam, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
Self consciousness. I think peer pressure to conform on the internet has spilled over into real life, and I think that creates an internal struggle for a lot of people.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a 100% independently produced artist – podcast, music, graphic design, and a substack in its infancy.
Most of my work is centered around commenting on culture and reviewing art. I was raised on movies and hope to make my own one day. Someone teach me how to market my show already!
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I think I’m still having a hard time listening to the world on this one. I am always myself, sometimes to a fault. But I find it very difficult, if not painful, to try and act as if I’m anything else. I don’t see the value in being inauthentic.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
All the time. Especially when you have actual data that tells you to give up.
The worst thing about my show to me is that no one knows about it. But I think it’s good and I enjoy doing it. Having a small audience is not a reason to bail. Appreciate that there’s anyone there at all.
Success is defined in your own terms.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That anyone can make it big. Sure, I technically could go into a field during a storm and catch lightning in a bottle… but that’s not very likely.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
That most things are manufactured for public consumption. Late night interviews are scripted, public spats are agreed upon for promotion, fake relationships for marketing, etc
