Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Alana White of Northeast Columbia

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Alana White. Check out our conversation below.

Alana , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day consists of waking up my puppy and getting her all ready for daycare and then my daily Starbucks run. Can’t go wrong with the strawberry refresher !

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Greetings, My name is Alana White. I am the owner of Creations by Christine LLC . I’m a licensed Cosmetologist specializing in the art of braiding. I’m most known for a well known client of mine Aaliyah Boston who played for the South Carolina Gamecocks and has now successfully gone to the WNBA playing for the Indiana Fever. I am Located in Columbia, South Carolina where I was also born and raised. I have professionally been doing hair for 5 years and I love every part of it. I find joy in meeting new people every single day and being able to bring their vision to life. I especially love my kid clients , they really bring a lot of sunshine to my day.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before I had my calling to my purpose in the world I was a very shy girl scared to branch out. I was bullied in my younger years and never had the confidence to do something that I love. Throughout all of grade school I tried to fit in but I just couldn’t. Later on I realized that meant that I was special and my presence wasn’t meant for everybody. Now, I’m so grateful I’ve overcame most of my life challenges. I’m genuinely happy where I am in life right now.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I believe in life we don’t learn unless we make a mistake or have a time we have to bring ourselves out of. I know there has been times that I almost wanted to give up and quit hair all together. When you are your own boss there’s not much to really fall back on. There was a time I felt all odds were stacked against me. I had Covid one year, I sprained my foot another year, I’ve gotten into two car wrecks in a months time frame but someway somehow I was able to make it out more successful than before. During the times that I had to sit in the house I was able to reflect and reroute a business plan instead of being stuck in the “why me phase” . In life things happen and we have to find the courage to pull ourselves from underneath the rubble.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
My next big project that I want to achieve is owning my very own salon and mentoring program. This is one of my end goals where I’ll be able to say “I made it”! I’ve always wanted to have my own space where I can decorate and offer what I want along with having a mentor program for teen girls who are interested in the beauty field just like me. I want to be able to provide guidance and skills that I wish I had starting out at that age. I also want to show them that anything is possible if you put your mind, time, and effort to it. Nothing comes easy at all that’s why I’m willing to stick through the process no matter how long this takes.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I only had 10 years left I would most definitely stop stressing. I know for a fact my life is surrounded by stress and anxiety and that is never good. I feel the need to have everything perfect and worry my self to death. I want to be able to live more in the moment end enjoy the many blessing that I have.
