Anasiah Clark shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Anasiah , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
One big misunderstanding about our business is that people think it’s just “cute” or a hobby because it’s run by a mom and daughter. But Glossy By Autumn is so much more than that. Yes, it’s heartwarming and rooted in family — but it’s also a real, growing business built on strategy, hard work, and purpose. We formulate quality skincare and lip care products, manage branding, marketing, customer service, pop-up events, shipping, and more — all with professionalism and love.
Just because we make it look fun doesn’t mean it isn’t serious. We’re creating something powerful that’s helping other girls feel confident and inspired, while also teaching my daughter the value of ownership, creativity, and resilience. This isn’t playtime — it’s legacy-building.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Anasiah Clark, the proud founder and CEO of Glossy By Autumn, a handcrafted skincare and lip care brand I built alongside my amazing 10-year-old daughter, Autumn. We’re a true mother-daughter duo from the small town of Charleston, Missouri, and our business is rooted in love, creativity, and the mission to inspire confidence—especially in young girls.
Glossy By Autumn started as a fun bonding project between the two of us and quickly turned into a full-blown business with a purpose. We handcraft everything from body butters and creams to lip glosses and scrubs—all with kid-friendly ingredients, bright designs, and a whole lot of heart. Autumn helps name the products, picks out scents, helps with labeling, packaging, videos, and is learning what it means to be a young entrepreneur in real-time.
What makes our brand truly special is that it’s not just about skincare or lip gloss—it’s about building confidence, encouraging self-care at a young age, and showing families what’s possible when they work together. We’re also working on launching more digital products like journals and courses to help other kids tap into their own entrepreneurial dreams.
We’re growing our brand from our small town to the world, one gloss at a time—and we’re so excited to share this journey and legacy with others.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What breaks the bonds between people, I believe, is a lack of understanding and communication. When people stop listening to each other, stop seeing each other’s hearts and start making assumptions—that’s when distance grows. In life, we all face struggles, whether it’s financial hardship, personal pain, or just feeling unseen. When people carry those things silently, relationships can get lost in the noise.
But what restores those bonds is empathy. It’s taking the time to ask, “How are you really?” and truly listening to the answer. For me, that’s been the beauty of building Glossy By Autumn with my daughter. It has brought us even closer. We talk, we dream, we work together—and that kind of connection is powerful. It reminds me that healing and strength live in relationships where people feel safe, valued, and supported.
Whether it’s family, friends, or even our amazing customers, I’ve learned that when you lead with love, honesty, and compassion—you don’t just restore bonds, you build unbreakable ones.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
What suffering taught me that success never could is how strong I really am.
Suffering introduced me to the parts of myself I didn’t know existed—the part that could keep going even when I was exhausted, the part that found hope in the middle of heartbreak, and the part that believed in my dreams even when everything around me said give up.
There were moments when I had little to no support, times when money was tight, energy was low, and the vision felt too big for me to carry. But those hard seasons taught me how to stretch, how to pray harder, how to move in faith, and how to build something meaningful out of almost nothing. That’s something success alone could never teach.
Suffering shaped my resilience. It made me resourceful. It helped me raise Autumn not just with love—but with strength, creativity, and determination. It’s why I pour so much into Glossy By Autumn—because I know the value of turning pain into purpose.
So yes, I celebrate the wins—but I honor the struggles, too. Because without them, I wouldn’t be who I am today.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies the beauty and skincare industry tells itself is that everything needs to be polished, perfect, and profit-driven to be successful. That bigger brands are always better, or that handmade and small-batch means less value. But the truth is — authenticity, heart, and intention matter more than flashy packaging or mass production.
Another lie is that children, especially young girls, don’t have a place in this space unless it’s just as consumers. But I’m watching my daughter, Autumn, prove every day that kids can create, inspire, and lead. The industry doesn’t give enough credit to the next generation of changemakers.
There’s also a toxic idea that success has to come at the expense of balance, peace, or family. But as a full-time mom and entrepreneur, I’m living proof that you can build a business while raising a child and nurturing your home — even if it’s hard. You don’t have to burn out to build up.
At Glossy By Autumn, we’re rewriting the rules. We value connection over competition, creativity over conformity, and realness over perfection. And I hope more brands start doing the same.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
What would remain is love, impact, and intention.
If I stripped away the titles—mother, business owner, founder of Glossy By Autumn—what would still be standing is the example I’ve set for my daughter and others like her: that you can dream big, work hard, and lead with heart no matter where you come from.
What remains is the bond Autumn and I have built through this journey—something no title or possession could ever define. It’s the joy we feel when someone tells us that our products made their child smile, or that our story inspired them to start something of their own.
Beyond the products, beyond the glosses and creams, what I hope truly remains is a legacy of purpose. One that says: “We didn’t just sell things—we made people feel something. We empowered kids. We showed the beauty of family. We turned a small-town dream into something meaningful.”
At the end of the day, if all that’s left is the love we poured into our community and the hope we sparked in others… then we’ve already won.
