Anna Rezan shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Anna , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: When have you felt most loved—and did you believe you deserved it?
When I first moved to NYC, I didn’t know anyone. Dean Katsas, Demetrios Rhobotis, Ian Shapolsky and Hannah Fierman made me feel completely accepted, supported, and cherished.
These days, on the set of our TV series, Great Kills, James Merendino, Steve Stanulis, Eric Roberts, and Cathy Moriarty have created a loving, energized space not only to perform but also to just be ourselves, and that’s why I believe the audience loves the show so much.
Then, when my partner, fellow filmmaker Giorgo Labiri, picks me up at the airport with flowers or when we are having lattes with my gals Anastasia, Natasha, and Anastasaki, I love my peeps very much, I feel truly blessed and I believe I deserve it.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My mother wanted to become and actress and my dad a director. They didn’t reveal that to me…up untill I had a career and I wish they had.But they loved the arts and my mom still does. My dad rests in peace.
I knew that she’s a cinephile. Dad was too. I was watching movies on TV with my parents and when I would see people my age in a film like Lindsey Lohan or Mary & Ashley Olsen I would pause the video, get the address of the studio in the US and write a letter to the production company that I want to work with them (laughs). Also I was using my parents videocamera to film my classmates, dress them in Halloween costumes and have them stage something.
As a teenager films, especially romantic comedies shaped me, changed…and in some occasions saved my life.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Bonds between people are broken by unkind words, careless acts, and a lack of trust or communication, while they are restored through open acknowledgment, genuine apology, and forgiveness. Restoring relationships involves a commitment to honesty, taking responsibility for your part in the conflict, and actively choosing to see the good in the other person. For any relationship to be real we need to actively work on resolving our personal issues. We also need to realise that being able to apologise should empower us as it’s profoundly an act of strength and self love..
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Overcoming certain fears is essential for personal growth, meaningful relationships, and achieving one’s potential. The most significant fears to address are often psychological and social in nature, rather than physical dangers.
Fear of Inadequacy I d say … This fear involves feeling that you are not good enough, smart enough, or deserving of your accomplishments. It can lead to perfectionism or underachievement. Acknowledging your skills and experience, practicing self-compassion, and acting with confidence even when self-doubt arises are effective coping strategies
Overcoming these fears allows individuals to break free from self-imposed limitations, foster resilience, and live a more authentic, joyful ,fulfilled life. Strategies like gradual exposure, reframing negative thoughts, and seeking support from mental health professionals.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value that I believe should be protected is human dignity, as it is considered the foundation for other universal values like freedom, justice, and peace.
The concept of human dignity is the basis of international human rights law, as articulated in documents like the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). This value is seen as inherent to all individuals, transcending specific cultural, national, or other differences, and its protection is considered an ethical imperative.
Universally recognized aspects of human dignity include respect for life and integrity, equality and non-discrimination, justice and fairness, and freedom of opinion and expression. These core principles are considered essential for human flourishing and the well-being of society, aiming to ensure individuals can live free from fear, harassment, or discrimination. The value of responsibility and benevolence towards others is also seen as important for community well-being.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
We most feel at peace during moments of inner stillness, when we are free from stress, worry, and internal or external conflict.Thats why it’s important to work with a healer or a therapist from time to time. Then we allow our self to enjoy…as this feeling can be found in a variety of situations and through specific practices. Prayer . Slow mornings. Hugs. Kisses. A good movie. A delicious meal. A walk with loved ones. Creative plans. Making love. Deep conversations. Dancing.
