Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Anton Elokuu

Anton Elokuu shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Anton, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Writing and recording music does it for me. I get so deep into it I sometimes forget to drink water. Everything else just disappears and it’s just me and whatever I’m working on. When I’m done, I feel a little more like myself again.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Anton Elokuu. I’m a producer, lyricist, sound engineer, and the sole musician behind my one-man project. I’ve made it a point to create every sound myself—no samples—so I play all the instruments on my records. I’ve just released my first official single, Alku, and I’m proud of what I was able to make with the resources I have. Right now, I’m working on the next single for an upcoming album. I like blending Dark Americana and Post-Rock, and I try to bring a cinematic feel to everything I make.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a kid with a big imagination and an obsession with sound. Life dulled that a bit over the years, but lately I feel like I’m finding my way back to that version of myself.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
There isn’t just one—most of them came from childhood and early adulthood. Therapy and supportive relationships have helped a lot, and music has been a big part of the healing too. In a way, I’m giving back to the thing that carried me through. My upcoming album Then And Now is about that whole journey and probably paints the clearest picture.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
Paul McCartney. I admire his humanity. He’s one of the most influential musicians alive, yet he still comes across as genuinely down to earth. I love hearing him talk about music and share his experiences.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I’m still at the beginning of my public musical journey, so giving my best without much outside recognition is pretty much the reality. I enjoy the process—it’s therapeutic—and even though most of the feedback I get is from the people closest to me, I still try to make music I’d want to listen to myself.
