We recently had the chance to connect with Artist Cierra Lynn and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Artist , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
When I first open my eyes I say a prayer. Right after, I go into reciting affirmations out loud or I stand in the mirror and speak them out loud. After I recite my affirmations, I pause and breathe. I check in with myself to see how I am feeling. And the last thing I do is make my bed up. That first 90 minutes of my day truly sets the tone for my day.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Cierra Lynn. I am a mom, empowerment artist, self love advocate, mental wellness advocate and proud Norfolk State graduate.
I have built my career in art and fashion by following my passion and heart while setting my own rules.
I believe in the transformative power of words, and through my art, I aim to inspire and uplift.
I combine art and affirmations to boost self-esteem, self-confidence, self-expression, and mental wellness.
After earning my BA in Fine Arts from Norfolk State University, I started teaching at an elementary school. During my time teaching, I was laid off. It was at that point when I turned a setback into a turning point. After months of applying for jobs, I decided to take my destiny into my own hands, turning my passion into a thriving business and becoming an entrepreneur to support my daughter.
Now, almost 16 years later, I am a proud to say that I have been a full time artist since then. I have consistently used my art for a bigger purpose.
I strive to empower girls and women through my use of bold colors, imagery and affirmations to boost self esteem, self expression and mental wellness.
Whether designing custom jackets, hats, murals, or hosting workshops, purpose will always be in the paint.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child I didn’t realize how gifted I am. I didn’t realize how powerful I am. Now, I no longer believe that I can’t be anything I want to be. I don’t believe that I can’t be successful as an artist. I get to decide. I am exactly who I think I am, and I believe that.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self it be ‘you will always be enough.’
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closets friends would say that honesty, authenticity and integrity truly matters to me. In every situation, I always stress the importance of being honest. I also stress the importance of be yourself unapologetically, showing up as yourself. And integrity means everything to me. Stay true to your morals and principles.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
LOL. If I retired tomorrow without a question, my customers would miss my hand designed items and my customized items for sure.
