Author K. Reshay shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Author , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I established Me Time Book Club in 2011. What started out as a women gathering, reading, and reviewing books has turned into a full blown nonprofit organization. Our nonprofit participates in community service and we also host book festivals.
I feel I’m being called to make this festival continue to happen for years to come. It’s extremely difficult and requires funding. It’s scary because you always run the risk of it not being successful each year.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m K. Reshay. In the literary community, I’m an author, poet, playwright, and book club founder.
My goal is to promote literacy within my community.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Visiting West Africa definitely changed my view of how I see myself and the world.
In 2019, myself along with my husband and others visited West Africa. This experience was an emotional roller coaster. I left understanding the very real nature of how the world can be cruel and how despite its cruelty, we still survived.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Being the founder and president of any organization can have its challenges. I’ve been through a lot and there were times that I wanted to give up. I didn’t understand why it was so difficult to achieve what I thought was the goals of the collective.
Looking back, I’m glad that I didn’t quit because I’ve created the vision God gave me and he continues to provide.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lies would be to click up with others and create a space where others don’t feel welcomed.
In this industry, it’s important to embrace individuality. I’ve never wanted to exclude anyone or make someone feel excluded.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m on vacation. I absolutely love to travel and experience new things.
Even if it’s a trip to the beach, it’s worth it to step out of the normal routine of day to day life.
