We recently had the chance to connect with Bianca Brandon and have shared our conversation below.
Bianca, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I am the most proud of my sobriety. It is something I dont talk about very often but I have been sober for a year and 6 months.
No one talks about how hard it is to wake up everyday and chose to live and not go back to the vices.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Bianca Brandon but everyone calls me Bee. I am a professional dancer currently on a 7 month contract with Virgin Voyages cruise line. I have been dancing since I was three years old and grew up as a competitive dancer and also was a gymnast.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Jessica Morgan. Mrs. Jessica was my teacher and owned the dance studio that I grew up dancing at. She always told my mother that I truly had a gift in dance and that I needed to continue with it and grow and become a professional dancer. I never really understood what that meant until I became older. Especially being a minority in this world and industry is very hard so I worked my butt off to get to where I am today and it is something I am very proud of.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely. I was married and with my ex for almost 10 years. We first met in Pittsburgh which is where I attended college and we started dating and then two years later he proposed. I put my career on hold for a few years to prepare for my wedding and really get involved in judging for dance competitions and teaching at dance conventions. I became a teacher at public schools teaching dance and I absolutely loved it. But my dream after college was to always move to LA, so I had put that on hold. Then in 2021 we finally made the big move to LA and while my career was blossoming, he really didn’t like the fact I was making a lot of connections and in rehearsals and gone a lot. It put a huge strain on my marriage and when I got my contract for An American In Paris I really thought about quitting dance to focus on my marriage. I almost gave up but then decided that I had worked too hard to get to where I was and I wanted a partner who understood and supported that fully.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Being authentically me and always being honest and remaining humble.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
How resilient I was as a person. I fought a lot of tough battles because I chose to never ever give up.
