We recently had the chance to connect with Brandy Cooper and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Brandy, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
Right now, I can definitely say I am on a wandering path! Haha, I know it isn’t one or the other but that is my current state of life. I know the destination; I am just not sure of the path I want to take so I am trying many routes to get to my end goals. I also believe in not having any regrets when it is all said and done. One day I want to look at my life and say at least I tried but, most importantly,I want to be fulfilled on what I succeeded at. I have a regular everyday job and now I am putting some of my passion into writing and podcasting, so I am excited to see where that takes me. I still dabble in travel content, but I have expanded and broaden my horizons so regardless of what path I take, I know I will reach my end goal.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Brandy Cooper! I currently working on travel content as well as a brand-new podcast with my mom called We Listen and We Judge. This year I really am focusing on pursing my passions which is traveling the world and finding a space in entertainment and media! By day I am a HR Business Partner.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I believe it was my first trip outside of the United States. My maternal immediate family took a vacation to Cancun Mexico! I was 16 years old and as you can imagine I am super excited about going out of the country! I felt fabulous and it was wonderful as well as a blessing to be able to take a trip with a good portion of your family and just enjoy a few days in Mexico, but it wasn’t the nice resort, the delicious food and the great room we stayed in that made the biggest impression on me and changed my world view; it was visiting the Chichen Itza. Seeing one of the 7 wonders of the world and getting to explore a historic indigenous area helped me understand the importance of learning different cultures and exploring earth. The defining moment for me was when I got to practice my Spanish with a woman who was the same age as my great grandmother at the time. Even with my broken Spanish, she understood me and carried on a conversation with me. That is a moment I will never forget and shaped the world for me forever.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Everyday ! A lot of times I am in my head, especially when you don’t receive support from people you know, and they share other content. I think to myself, maybe it isn’t meant to be, maybe it isn’t good enough but then there are those times when people reach out and want to know more about the content or ask for your recommendations and then I am like yeah, I need to keep going. I also reshaped my mindset. I am doing this for me, and as long as I enjoy it, I will keep going.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
I don’t think anyone shares their full self with the world but what I present to the social media is 100% me. I don’t fake content or try to put on a persona that doesn’t represent who I am, but I do keep parts of myself for myself and for people who truly know me in real life. I also don’t think people are watching my every move to confirm if I am showing my real self…..ha-ha. I know that what I present is just to share for like-minded people, so I don’t think anyone is watching saying ” she’s not being true to herself” or ” this is fake” and if they are I hope this clarifies for them that everything is authentic.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
This is an interesting question because I don’t really think about what legacy I will leave. When it is all said and done, I just want to be able to say that I went after all of my goals. What people think about me while I am gone and no longer here is not my concern. I am living my legacy.
