Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Cameron Bailey of Baltimore

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Cameron Bailey. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Cameron, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I would say my character. I’ve faced sadness and pain as a child, which caused me to carry an immense amount of anger towards myself. You go through things and often question yourself, “Why me”, not knowing that God uses these moments to help build your character.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Cameron Bailey, and I am the Chief Brand Officer for Sleekz.

Sleekz is an innovative take on the gamer-style glove, which started in 2019. The founder and I have brainstormed together to bring you all the next big accessory in gaming. We have created something for gamers who have sweaty palms in those intense moments where precision is needed. The Sleekz glove features different color palettes, which release every generation. They are very limited in that sense, as that color palette won’t be released again to the public after it is sold out.

Right now, we are on generation two of the Sleekz, which are titled “Fiery Pheonix”. As you can imagine, they are primarily red and have black highlights. Also, the “Fiery Pheonix” features black silicone dots on the palm to help with your grip on the controller.

The first generation Sleekz were titled, “Midnight Raven” and featured an all-black glove with purple highlights between the fingers, and lettering.

We are constantly thinking of the next color palette, as well as other changes for the next generation of Sleekz, and I cannot wait for you all to see the things we have in store.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
By far, I would say losing my mom as a 9-year-old kid. At such a young age, I went through an intense character defining moment that I really didn’t know how I would surpass. With the help of family, and talks with God, I was able to understand why it happened, and why it HAD to happen.

This shaped my world view that anyone can leave at any time. Any day could be someone’s last day, so always be kind to others.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
“I promise you that the world doesn’t hate you.”

Even saying that just now, made me a little teary eyed because that’s something I always believed as a child.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Short answer-no (laughs).

I would say the public version of me is more professional, whilst also being myself to a degree. There are things that you shouldn’t say in a public setting, and I keep those things reserved for a later time. Certain things can or will hurt your brand, and that is something you want to avoid, especially in the early stages.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
That some people actually cannot be replaced. I know there is this stigma in which businesses do not care about their employee’s, but to me, they matter the most. There are just some key players in your company who bring a good aura/morale to the company that will help uplift the entire group. Other companies, will see this person as just a number and fire them if they need to, not knowing how important they were behind the scenes.
