Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Cindy Kruse of Miami

We recently had the chance to connect with Cindy Kruse and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Cindy, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I feel like I am not only walking a path, but paving my own road for others to follow. The past few years have been so tough for our industry. We are still here and will not give up! People often ask me how we do it and have even called us inspirational.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Cindy Kruse, a baker and lover of everything sweet. Along with my partner Eric Paige, we started Cindy Lou’s Cookies in 2012 out of a garage in Coconut Grove.
Our little dream quickly became a reality and in 2017 we opened our brick and mortar in Little River. Eight years later, we still have a shop full of cookies, even bigger dreams and a lot more friends. I think what sets us apart and makes us unique, still after all these years, is that we built a community and a following around doing good and making people happy through our product.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I must admit I have always been different and felt like a bit of an outcast growing up. I knew I wanted to do something that made people happy. I am glad to say I have remained true to myself and very happy it all worked out.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
So many times. This business is so hard to begin with, but running a small business has proven to be extremely challenging these past few years.
My partner Eric, always the level headed one, keeps me positive and grounded.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
What you see is what you get.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am glad to report that I am doing what I was born to do. I love baking and I love making people happy
