We recently had the chance to connect with Constantinos Vorrises and have shared our conversation below.
Constantinos, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Great question for an artist. Every time I start a new painting or continue one, the purpose to is lose track of time, clear of any thoughts and just enjoy the creative process of abstract art. It’s a break from the daily routine of reality and 2-3 hours will go by and barely feels like anything.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Constantinos Vorrises, a Realtor for 18 years and an Artist for 25 years. What’s unique about my art is there is no pre-determined idea or process for what I want to paint or draw. I stare at the blank canvas, choose some colors and start creating. There’s no right or wrong way of making art, especially my favorite – abstract. I’ve been selling/leasing Residential and Commercial Real Estate for 18 years in the SF Bay Area and love creating artwork late at night when it’s all calm and quiet. I’m always working on something new – next thing that interests me are hats. Actually working on a few right now!
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
I would say failure taught me the most about work, not a specific person. I’ve failed a lot over the years with different businesses or opportunities, but failing was the best teacher. I made a lot of mistakes as a Realtor, Artist, T-shirt maker, etc, but now I’m one of the top producers in my Real Estate company. Failing and learning is the best thing to do in your life. One day at a time, that’s all I focus on.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell myself that majority of people have no idea what they’re doing or why they’re doing it. Finding purpose is the most challenging thing in life so I would tell my younger self to find purpose as early as possible and go for it.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
There’s a lot of smart people out there but the real world doesn’t care if you’re smart if you can’t add value and be good with people. I know very educated and smart people who are afraid to try and take a risk with anything, while others I know who barely finished High School are very successful because they take risks and are ambitious. You can’t teach ambition. You either take risks or you don’t. Most people don’t – it’s much safer that way.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
My follow up calls and emails because I’m very persistent. People tell me no all day in Real Estate, but I just say ok and on to the next. You can’t allow a simple no to distract you from the goal which is to be a top producer in my company. As for my artwork, not sure. Abstract is so subjective. Random artists will tell me they wish they could paint like me but I wish that I could paint like them!
