Crystal, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
I think what’s most misunderstood is pricing and that’s not just with my business that’s all hairstylist. I see all the time that hairstylist charge to much and in my case for sure it’s not true. Most of us put a lot of time, energy and money in to educating ourselves to benefit our clients so we should be able to raise our prices without a second thought. We invest in good tools and products for our clients so they have the best in their hair, they come at a price for sure. Instead we wait until we absolutely have to and have cut cost on ourselves before raising prices.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Crystal Perez and I’m a cosmetologist and owner of Bewitching Styles by Crystal. I believe I can help people achieve their hair goals while keeping the integrity of the hair intact. Each person of different so each person deserves to know what will help for their hair. I give education to my clients while I’m doing their hair to help maintain the style.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a stay at home mom of 3 then married and wanting to do something with my life. We struggled a lot when I was married to make ends meet but I always helped find a way if I could help it. After my divorce I decided I wanted to do more with my life, not work in retail anymore, and be able to make my schedule for myself and my kids. I got my GED and within 24 hrs I was enrolled in cosmetology school. I’ve been licensed for 5 years and I learn so much from each person in my chair. I’m beyond blessed to have my clients.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one thing to my younger self it would be “Give it time, don’t rush” things tend to work out for the better sometimes and while we don’t see it at the time there’s usually a good reason why things don’t work out.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie I think I have ever heard in any industry is “fake it till you make it” let’s not fake to people that we know something instead be honest and say “ya know I’m unsure but I’ll find out for you!” Which I think is a better phrase because you actually learn and so does the person asking.

Hair appointments aren’t always about the hair. It’s about the connection. The time we spend with our clients. The laughing. And memories we make with them. The growth. Great hair is the bonus that makes them feel amazing day in and day out before coming back to us.
