Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Dale Keano of silicon valley San jose

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Dale Keano. Check out our conversation below.

Dale, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Being with my kids. I’ve earned the freedom to decide what time my work day starts. Now that I have 2 young ones, I choose to be home and spend time with them. Understanding how important it is to give them a strong foundation for life.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a creative. Started by making beats. I’ve worked hard to become known for directing music videos, running a recording studio, producing music and now releasing my own music – in Spanish at that.

My fuel comes from the mantras:
– do what you love everyday
– you can always figure it out
– remember why you started
– remember where you came from

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I like my many minority kids was told non stop by my elders and relatives to be a doctor. Being young and not having a strong voice, I followed. All the way until I was 21. When at college I finally got questioned by a counselor – why are you doing this? You’re almost going to flunk out. You barely make grades. She knows students who try and get better standing. What was I doing she asked? I was making beats. She said well that’s it, why aren’t you doing that ? Or figuring out how to live that life? A moment that led me down the path I am now.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I want to give up at least once a year. It’s tough making ends meet while caring for 2 kids. We can’t afford daycare in silicon valley and we frankly choose to be with our kids so rn these are the cards were dealt. My wife goes to work 9-5 and when she gets back I summon whatever energy I have left to go work a full shift. Sleeping at 2am most nights I wake up at 7 on the dot every morning because the kids do.

Somehow the universe provides and with the time I can work I still make things happen.

But I remember no matter the hardship, I am grateful for the life I’ve built and can have. That side of the see saw always weighs heavier and grounds me than the side of wanting to give up.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Never giving up and always finding a way. Brave for choosing the hardest path.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m in nature. Both hiking the woods and enjoying the view of the beach. Its the only place I can fully unplug and not let the weight of my mind take over
