We recently had the chance to connect with Damian Raven and have shared our conversation below.
Damian , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me (when I am not acting) is waking up at 5am. I get up, make the bed, and prepare breakfast and lunch for my wife to take to work. I then have some decaf coffee and practice yoga for about an hour. Once my daughter wakes up, I make her breakfast and then I start her school day. After she finishes her work we usually go out for a walk, head to the park or go and have lunch. I’m the evening I complete whatever assignments I have for class ( I am finishing my degree at CSUN so I am taking online classes), I then make dinner and relax with the family. I am a simple kind of man.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I don’t really have a brand. I am an old school actor who just loves to work and spend all my free time with loved ones while being as creative as possible.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The moment I became a father. I was 17 and I had just received a full football scholarship to college. Once my son was born, I dedicated myself to raising him.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There were many times when I felt like giving up, but I always found the reasons not to. The most important reason was my children, and then the fact that I realized that there is no point in giving up when this life is all we have. The end will come for us all so we might as well live our lives to the fullest and not allow failure to define us. Every failure leads to success if you don’t give up.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is absolutely the real me because I love who I am. The only time I am not me is when I am in character, and even then there is a great deal of my self poured into the role.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop being so hard on myself for not achieving every goal I have.
