Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Debra Mosley-McCray of City Wide

We recently had the chance to connect with Debra Mosley-McCray and have shared our conversation below.

Debra , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Intelligence may impress, but integrity endures. Wisdom without character leaves little value.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a creative who loves God with every fiber of my being. God is the ultimate creative.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Where pride tears bonds apart, humility heals and holds them together.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d comfort my younger self by reminding her that the dreams she envisions are not far fetched at all.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
I’m a firm believer that you reap what you sow. Every harvest is connected to the seeds planted.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
If I had waited on human praise, I would’ve never accomplished what I have today. The applause of people is fleeting, and I refuse to give anyone that much control over my journey. My approval comes from God alone. His green light outshines any affirmation I could ever receive. The peace He provides sustains me, even in the face of rejection.
