Denise Maple shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Denise, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Nature, spiritual pursuits, and time with close friends. Yesterday, I experienced a sound healing, restorative yoga, and visited a fairy garden with a dear friend. We connected, we laughed, and delighted at the day.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I serve my clients through Live Life Spiritual Direction as a mind/body/spirit coach. My approach is holistic because I know that it is all connected. It is unusual for a coach to have so many modalities at hand. My offerings include spiritual life coaching, Reiki, and bioenergetic healing. I also offer workshops, such as Meditation and Ancestral Healing, both in person and online. My goal is to help my clients reach their goals and live the song of their souls.
I am unique because in addition to my spiritual and holistic health training, I have a strong business background. I worked for 40 years in finance, including commercial banking and teaching Finance at the University of Illinois. Through Live Life Business Consulting, I am a corporate wellness and performance coach, working with companies to help their employees perform optimally and thrive professionally and personally.
I have helped my clients navigate many challenges and come out stronger and more confident than when they started. Success stories include assisting a client navigate a cancer diagnosis that took her from feeling lost to empowered in her care and recovery. Many of my clients are successfully overcoming generational patterns of a addiction, abuse, and low self esteem.
My hobbies include motorcycling, hiking, and exploring different modalities and experiences for my spiritual and personal growth.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed that life was happening to me, but now I understand that life happens through me. I am not a victim of my circumstances. Besides love, life’s purpose is for our soul to experience different occurrences in life and to grow through them. I now understand that I have many more choices in my life than I thought I had. I was often dissuaded as a child to follow my dreams because they were not practical or did not fit into the box that society had set. I have learned since that I can pursue what I want to do. I have learned to believe in myself and ask for help to get me there.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
In my life, I have experienced trauma and heartache. I used to hide that and feel shame for it. I now share my life experiences with my clients and followers so that they do not feel alone and know that there is a way to overcome difficulties. When I show vulnerability and authenticity, I give others permission to do the same – to be themselves, which is what we are meant to be.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
Chaos and tragedy in the world is based purely on fear. Yes, greed often, but why is someone greedy? Because they fear they will never have enough. Why are we so divided on politics as a society? Because everyone fears that they won’t be okay unless things go the way they think it should. The truth, as I see it, is that the division in our country has been manufactured to have us fighting so that we do not question our own “side”. Neither “side” is truly serving us. It is time for a new way in politics, the way we dialogue about it and how we interact with each other. In reality, there are no sides. We are all one in this Universe and when one suffers, we all do.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I made a difference in their lives. That I offered more love than pain. That the people in my life know that I cared for them. In my entire career and personal life, I have been a person of service. Yes, it’s important to take care of ourselves. As the saying goes, when we fill our cup first, there is more overflow to share with others. But my greatest joy is being part of someone else’s success and happiness, even if no one else ever knows.
