We recently had the chance to connect with Derek Kendall and have shared our conversation below.

Derek, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I think lots of people struggle with finding their truest potential in life! I see it in people’s faces , who they are , or who they could be. I see some are stuck in their ways while others are free with no boundaries just enjoying what God put in front of them along with the gift of life. Some folks need that extra unusual encouragement & that’s some of the kind of energy I needed to find mines.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My brand is kinda considered very visual & bold! I was always seen as the good guy so with my talents I’ve brought rich character into every shoot or show I’ve been featured in. I give 1,000% & I want it to show in every way possible. You never know who’s life you might change. Alot of people will look down on you & that’s when I will witness their facial expressions after I’ve electrified the floor with my explosive walk. I’m known for having fancy footwork on the runway which has always been a thing people apeshit about! My best kept secret. I have dance & drama class experience so I can’t help some of it will show on stage. I have been known for being quiet or shy when I was younger but I’ve learned i was shielding myself from the wrong type of crowd & knowing if I was going to pursue my destiny that kind of lifestyle was not for me. You can say my style is tv/upscale, urban, GQ, anime, cyber,hotshot & oh so jazzy! Holla

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was when I would notice the other male talent would always seem to either be really proud to see me & give props or be extremely intimidated. Besides that I remember when folks just out of no where kept calling me a superstar….they were dead serious lol kinda spooked me the 1st year. Still does

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes i used to think about it. It can be an emotional roller coaster for sure. But my determination always paid off in the past so why stop , right? No matter how hard it gets….winners never quit!

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes the publice version of me is the real me. It’s a time & place for everything.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What light inside you have you been dimming?
My rawest talent , everything people see now. I was afraid to speak, fear of laughter, fear of being not liked or favored. Petrified of the spotlight. That chapter is over though , my fellow film directors/filmmakers & a vast community of people have instilled an eternal blessing within me….that you are leading a nation!
