DJ (Winfrid) Webb shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi DJ (Winfrid) , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
In January my first grandchild was born. Becoming a grandfather is something that I’m extremely proud and happy of. Helping my daughter and her husband care for my granddaughter makes me so happy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a full-time professional mobile/ travel VJ and DJ from Atlanta GA. I provide DJ services for any type of event for all ages, specializing in all genres of music. I’ve done school functions, house of worship gatherings, sporting events, corporate events, weddings, family reunions, birthday parties and yacht parties throughout the United States and abroad. I’ve been a DJ since 1989 and started Webb’s DJ Services the summer of 2004. I’m married to my wife Kim of 26 years; we have two daughters Wynter and Raven age 26 and 21. Being a full time DJ working for myself the entirety of our daughters’ youth years allowed me to be available for all of their school and extra-curricular activities. My schedule is very flexible because I book and manage my own schedule, which is one of the best things about owning my own business. Devoting my time and attention full time to my craft/business puts me in a position to connect fully with each client before their events. Communicating and meeting with every client at their event sites to discuss their event setups and the flow of the events is one of the reasons I’ve been very successful for 35 plus years consistently. My standard as a DJ is to assure that my customer service practice is just as great as my hospitality practices. My ability to go above and beyond is what separates me from the others in the industry.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Thinking back to my elementary school years…… In the 4th grade we were allowed to participate in band. When we walked into the band room the band teacher said to just find a seat so the seat I found was on the 3rd row. Of course, all of the boys wanted to play the drums or trumpet, unfortunately we weren’t given the opportunity to pick which instrument we would be assigned to. With that being said, the 3rd row was for the saxophones! When he put that instrument in my lap, I was overwhelmed by all of the many buttons / keys on it. After about 3 weeks of practice, I finally was able to make some progress, didn’t take much longer after that and I was cooking with grease. When I learned to play the saxophone that showed me that I could do anything. By 7th grade I was the section leader in the concert area band which consisted of 4 different schools. By high school I was also the section leader in the marching band and the concert band. Anytime I’m faced with adversity I always think back to that moment in 4th grade.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
During the 2008 economy crash it was very hard to book events as people wasn’t hosting many events that required a professional DJ. I was booking smaller events, but the hotel and conference events wasn’t happing as companies was laying off staff and some closing down. One day I sat down with my wife and said to her that I was thinking of letting go of the DJ Business. She recommended that I find a job that didn’t require me to work on weekends until business picked back up. I took her advice and started working at Walmart as a customer service manager. Thank goodness I took her advice because business picked back up later in 2007 which pushed me into a totally new sector of the entertainment industry. I landed my first mega yacht event for a client I did a wedding for back in 2005. He recommended me to other yacht owners who host tons of yacht club parties for the elites of Miami and Chicago. Those events tripled what I made yearly doing weddings and corporate events. Surviving the 2008 economy crash was the rebirth of Webb’s DJ Services. It’s now 2025 and my relationship with those yacht clubs have grown tremendously.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, the person I am in public is the person I am at home with my family and close friends. I’m very friendly and love to have fun, in high school I was the class clown. It’s hard for me not to be myself unfortunately, I’m very big on my family time as my family means the most to me. The way I am with my family is the way I am with everyone, this natural behavior is also why I’m great with my clients, everyone loves a good laugh and being around people who are reliable. Everyone knows if I commit to something that I will finish the drill as promised. On my social media pages I sometimes speak out about things that bothers me that’s in the news, I’m totally okay with clients and or potential clients knowing how I feel and where I stand or certain topics. I don’t like seeing people being taken advantage of, so therefore using my platform to help bring awareness is what I’m comfortable with, it’s only fair that people know the real you.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I love doing what I do for a living as a DJ so I will always go above and beyond the call of duty because I want things to be as close to perfect as possible. In fact, ever since I was a small boy, I’ve always taken pride in the things that I’m involved in. Some events the clients will give a gratuity or send an email saying thanks and some do not, I know that they appreciate my extra efforts, so I don’t allow it to bother me whenever I don’t receive a gratuity or words of praise.
