Dylan Alarcon shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Dylan, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me lately has been waking up, doing some stretches and going right to catching up on whatever editing I need to do. Typically, I am editing video clips or pictures I took for the last Wednesday or Sunday night service at my church where I serve on the media team.
If it’s not that, I’ve been editing pictures and video from events I’ve shot recently, and getting those uploaded to my Google Drive, Facebook, and Instagram as well. For a long while, I was working through editing a wedding, which turned out to be quite a lot more challenging than I realized. But it was rewarding to finish.
I usually fast during the day because I want to get started ASAP on what I need to catch up on and it helps me not pig out so much! So I’ll have a nice brunch at home, work out a little, and work on some more things throughout the day. Usually ending the night with a game session with some friends. I’ve been enjoying going to Young Adults group on Sunday nights at church or Wednesday night services, where I do media.
The beautiful thing is, as a freelancer, my days are spontaneous, and I might spend the night hanging out with friends, or do something spontaneous, and I love that!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey! My name is Dylan, and I’m the owner of Bezalel Media. I’m a Communications/Design graduate of Southeastern University, in my late 20s. I’ve loved taking pictures and putting together creative videos since I was a kid.
When I was 20, I bought my first DSLR, and when I was 23, I was introduced to NASCAR. I began freelancing and shooting sports, but primarily took a liking to shooting motorsports at my local pavement racetrack, Citrus County Speedway. This experience helped me acquire a full-time job working for the Open Wheel Showdown and various talented drivers as part of the Media team until March of 2025. I love capturing live events, especially sports, and I have a social media page dedicated specifically to motorsports.
I want people to know that I’m in this for the love of the art, and I want to hopefully reflect the love and excellence of God through my business.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
Both my father and stepfather have worked hard their entire lives, and showed me what it means to be a provider for your family. Anytime I feel lazy or want to be complacent, I think of how long they’ve stuck it out at their full-time jobs because they knew it was necessary to provide for my family and I. My father not only set the example of being a hard worker, but he’s shared valuable wisdom about studying and investing money so that I would not always have to work hard, but work smart.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one thing to awkward, scatter-brained teenage Dyl, I would say: “You’re going to achieve everything you’re dreaming of, do not be afraid”. It’s amazing how many little fears I’ve slowly overcome, and how many doors God has opened once I’ve taken steps towards my dreams. I’m truly astonished at where I’m at right now in my personal life and career, knowing I had no idea how to get here, yet it still happened.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I’m happy to say that for better or for worse, yes. I am a bad liar, and sometimes too honest. While this is something to work on, it’s also something I’m proud of. My clients can know that they are getting the genuine me, and I’m not here to sell them something, but to make something cool that we can both be happy about!
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am doing what I was born to do, and I am so confident in that. The evidence of my childhood showed me that I love to take pictures, I love to put together stories with video, I love to make music, and I love write.
I’ve gotten to do all of those things, with the writing part coming through the ocassional graphic I’ll make that requires copy writing. Bringing me back university and those communications/Media classes.
As for music, a major goal in 2026 is to record a few songs I’ve written years ago. But I have been playing guitar more often lately, expressing myself and sometimes just singing worship songs on the guitar. This truly is a big part of my heart and soul and brings me a lot of peace and joy.
