We recently had the chance to connect with Emily Foster and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Emily, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
Honestly, I think a lot of people are secretly struggling with feeling like they’re not doing enough, even when from the outside it looks like they have it all together.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Emily, the designer and strategist behind Emily Foster Creative. I help wedding professionals and creative entrepreneurs build brands and websites that feel as intentional as they are beautiful. What makes my work unique is that I don’t just design for aesthetics, I design with strategy, weaving together storytelling, artistry, and functionality so your brand can connect on a deeper level and actually grow your business. Right now, I’m especially excited about creating resources and conversations that support wedding pros in elevating their branding and confidently booking the clients they dream of working with.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A big moment that shaped how I see the world was when I made the leap from agency and marketing work into building my own design business. Suddenly, I wasn’t just the designer, I was also the strategist, the project manager, and the person holding the vision for how a brand could impact someone’s business. That shift gave me so much empathy for entrepreneurs, especially in the wedding industry, who are balancing their creative passions with the realities of running a business. It’s why I design with strategy first, I know how much it matters.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self: “You don’t have to have it all figured out right away, your path will make sense as it unfolds. Trust your creativity, and let it lead you.”
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies I see in the creative and wedding industry is that your brand just needs to look “pretty” to succeed. The truth is, beautiful design without strategy won’t carry your business very far. Another lie is that everyone else has it all figured out, when in reality, even the most established pros are still learning, refining, and evolving behind the scenes.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes! I believe the best work comes from integrity, not applause. Even if no one ever praised me for it, I’d still give my best, because design is about creating impact for the people who need it, not about external validation. The fulfillment comes from knowing the work is meaningful and aligned with my values.
