Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Eric Ross of Dallas/Los Angeles

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Eric Ross. Check out our conversation below.

Eric , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Waking up, thanking God for the new day, getting my coffee and walking the dogs. Simple life morning routine before the Grind kicks in and the electronics, synths, machines come alive with the slaps of hats, kicks, and sounds in the Music Lab.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I have been a part of the Electronic Music scene since the early 80s. As a producer I am on the scene in 2000. I produce and tour as an Artist in the House and Techno Scene, I prefer the underground, far away from the Disneyland Music and Corporate influence. I own two labels, SQ1 The Underground and I LUV SUNDAZE. The first is based around Underground Techno and the second leans more towards Underground House Music. I was blessed to be part of the Rave Movement that started in the US in the late 80s, playing Coast to Coast in Dingy Warehouse Spaces, empty buildings as well as some of the Staple Clubs here in America and Overseas. Those experiences helped shape my sound over time and help mold me as a Global Artist.

I am currently working with a few groups, one being THE UNDERGOUND /Abracadabra Records team in Del Rio TX, also teaming up with Let’s Techno Records and Haustronaut Recordings, releasing some great tracks with those labels, as well as a few other labels out of Berlin. I am also gearing up to push my labels hard into 2026 with some Vinyl only releases.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Traveling and living in Europe help to shape how I see the world. The different cultures and different vibes and how people communicate through body language. Playing events where I did not speak the native language yet was able to communicate through my Dj sets and hugs and smiles. Learning how to live and interact with different perspectives helped to make me aware of the beauty of what the world is, which breaks down to one simple fact; We are all Human.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
At one time, I wanted to be a “Famous” artist. Wanted to work with the Major labels in the Dance Music Scene and work with some of the POP stars as well as some of the major producers in the scene. I had some chances to work with that space, while in Los Angeles. However, it was a failure. I created some great music however, I just couldn’t bring my self to creating that cheesy music for the masses. Every time I tried to create a remix or make music that was trendy, I ended up at a total different point when finished. What they wanted was a hollow, empty, no soul, just a “Formula” and the right “Sounds’ for that Disneyland Dance Music Machine that is now popular. Failing hard, not releasing with any major POP act or collab with any of the Disneyland Dance Music leaders or Major Labels woke me up. I was never ment to be part of that scene. I have and will always be part of the Underground and that is where I live, music wise. Others I worked with went on to be famous, but selling their own taste in music for a dirty dollars is not in my nature.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie that my industry tells itself is that fame and money is the end goal and one must sell out to achieve such goal. That the Super Stars Djs, sync buttons, Stage Acts, and the Illusion of Fame actually mean something. It’s meaningless as AI will take all that over and the Fame of most will flicker and die out like a candle in a snow storm. But the human to human interaction, the human made music, the “Live Human” performance will always be the part of the Underground and that is were true music lovers will be found.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolute, I do it every day.
