We’re looking forward to introducing you to Gabi McMillan. Check out our conversation below.
Gabi, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I have found joy spending time with myself. It has brought me a lot of peace and allows me to reset and just decompress after a long day. It’s made me very content lately.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Gabi and I do makeup! I am not licensed or a professional makeup artist but it is something I love to do for fun. I especially love doing fun creative looks (Halloween time is my favorite for this), but also love doing just a good everyday look.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I’m letting of go of my fear of failure. It’s kept me from doing so many things and has made me miss out on some pretty cool opportunities. Nobody is perfect though and I’m learning that mistakes are such an essential part of helping you grow and not be stuck in the same place/level your whole life.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Failure. I get so anxious that I’m just gonna mess up or it’s not gonna turn out good and I overthink it to the point where it makes me not even want to go for it.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I use to think I needed to have everything figured out in life by a certain age and when that didn’t happen I felt like I was behind or thought it was too late now to achieve certain things. Now I realize everyone just moves at their own pace, don’t compare your journey to other people’s.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Doubting myself. I’d take every opportunity given to me and just go for it, regardless if I’m nervous or scared.
