Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Gabriel Alexis of New York

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Gabriel Alexis. Check out our conversation below.

Gabriel, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day are all about aligning myself. As soon as I wake up, I take a moment to thank God for another day — I don’t rush my mornings. I ease in by reading a little, journaling, doing breathwork, and praying.

My mornings are sacred because they set the tone for my day. That quiet time allows me to reconnect with myself and make sure everything I create comes from a place of clarity, purpose, and intention.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Gabriel Alexis — Director, Founder, and CEO of Learn Filmmaking Network, a global platform and community designed to empower filmmakers and creators at every stage of their journey. What began as my personal passion for sharing behind-the-scenes moments and championing talent has grown into a community of over a million creatives worldwide.

I’ve always loved movies — the way a story can make you feel something, teach you something, or see the world differently. That’s why I fell in love with filmmaking. Creating films allows me to move people emotionally and inspire others through cinema.

At my core, I love helping people become the best version of themselves. Whether I’m behind the camera, directing, mentoring, or building community, my purpose has always been to uplift others and create spaces where they feel truly seen, heard, and supported. LFN was born from that intention. I never wanted another creator to walk this path feeling alone like I once did. If I can make someone’s journey more hopeful, accessible, and empowering, then I’m doing what I’m meant to do.

I’ve always believed that talent is universal and every creator deserves a place to belong. That’s the heart behind the next phase of LFN. We’re now building a new platform — a space where creators can learn, connect, showcase their work, and be discovered.

Everything I do is rooted in community, education, impact, and giving back. My mission is to help shape the future of how people learn, connect, and be discovered in the filmmaking industry.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
The people who taught me the most about work are my mother, grandfather, and grandmother. My grandmother came to the United States from the Dominican Republic to provide for our family — her sacrifice and courage are a big part of why I work the way I do today.

My grandfather worked seven days a week, no days off. His dedication and discipline showed me what it means to commit yourself fully — not for recognition, but out of love and responsibility.

And my mother would work through the holidays to make sure we were taken care of. Watching her resilience taught me that real work is about character, consistency, and showing up even when it’s hard.

I’ve learned from many teachers and mentors along my journey, but the heart behind my work ethic comes from them — their sacrifice, their strength, and the example they set.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self: you’re not behind. Everything you’re dreaming about is going to happen. Be patient with yourself, trust your path, and don’t dim your light. Shine boldly — God will use it to inspire others.

Don’t lose your faith. Keep going. One day, you’ll look back and realize every challenge was shaping you into the person you were meant to become. God is preparing you and guiding you every step of the way.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would probably say that what matters most to me is being a good person. I really care about showing up for people, treating others with kindness, and making sure the people around me feel seen and supported.

They know I value impact over attention, and that I’m committed to create opportunities for others, not just myself.

God, family, and community mean a lot to me, and I think they’d say those are the things that guide how I move in the world.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m in stillness — early in the morning, praying, or just taking a quiet moment to breathe. Anytime I can step away from the noise and reconnect with myself and with God, I feel centered.

I also find peace in simple moments: watching a good film, taking a walk in the park, or being around people I care about. There’s something grounding about being in spaces where I feel aligned, inspired, and genuinely myself. Those are the moments that bring me the most peace.
