Giulia Asquino shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Giulia, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Recently, I’ve felt genuinely proud of a decision I made: starting therapy. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, but I always found reasons to put it off. Finally taking that step felt like a quiet but powerful act of self-respect. Now that I’ve been going for a few weeks, I can already feel the impact—it’s something I’m doing just for me, and honestly, it feels priceless.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! My name is Giulia Asquino, and I’m a British-Italian actor and writer with a background in ballet and singing.
I trained in London, New York, and Los Angeles, and I’m a graduate of the National Film and Television School (NFTS), where I studied screenwriting. I’m also passionate about learning new languages.
I recently premiered my debut solo show, C’Est Moi, at The Cockpit in London, and I’m now preparing to take it to the Edinburgh Fringe this August, where it will run at the Ghillie Dhu.
My work often explores themes of memory, identity, vulnerability, and self-discovery—told through stories that feel human, raw, and emotionally truthful.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was a child, I was made to feel that my thoughts weren’t valid and that my choices were only “good” if they turned out to be right. If I made a mistake, it was seen as proof that I wasn’t capable.
Now, I’ve come to believe that I’m allowed to make mistakes—that they don’t define my worth or ability. I have the right to choose my own path, and I no longer feel the need to live according to other people’s expectations. I have a voice in my own life—and that voice matters.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
No, I’ve never seriously thought about giving up. Like anyone, I have moments of fear, overthinking, and self-doubt. Sometimes I go quiet for a few days, my energy dips—but then I reconnect with why I’m doing this. I remember how much I love it, and I listen to that part of myself.
I think a big part of it is my personality—I can be quite stubborn. But I’ve come to see that as a strength, especially when it fuels something meaningful—for myself and for others.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Currently, the project I feel most drawn to is one I’m developing—a feature film based on my family’s history. It’s set in Yorkshire in 1956 and follows the story of my Irish and Italian great-grandparents as they rebuild their lives after the war.
I truly believe this story has something valuable to offer, especially in today’s world, where so many of us are navigating uncertainty and trying to piece things back together. At its heart, it’s about human connection and what really matters in the end: life, love, and resilience.
No matter how long it takes, I believe this film will happen—and when it does, it will speak to something we all need right now.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m surrounded by nature or in my partner’s arms—those are the spaces where I feel truly calm, grounded, and stress-free. They remind me what it means to simply be, without pressure or noise.
