Hillary Hawkins shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Hillary, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Tell my story.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Hillary Hawkins, and what makes me unique is my ability to wear many hats: Actress, Writer, Producer, Director, Editor, Singer, Songwriter, Casting Director, Music Supervisor, and Creator of the “Actors Anonymous Hotline” universe. In addition, God has blessed me with a knack for languages (multilingual singing talent: English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Swahili, Japanese & more) and a strong ability to regurgitate accents (International Voice Over Artist working in American, British, Latin American, Southern, African accents & more). I’m also an indie artist who just launched an online store — www.HillaryHawkins.com/ActorsAnonymousHotline — to spread healing, humor, and love.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My dear friend James Beljour saw me clearly long before I could see myself. While I was on Nickelodeon, enjoying being an industry kid and working on other people’s projects, James planted an important seed: “We gotta do our own thing, Hill! We gotta do our own thing!” Fast forward, and now I’m actress/screenwriter/producer of “Stuck for a Reason” (which aired on ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX as part of “African American Short Films” and is now available on Amazon), singer-songwriter of “Protect” (aired on the CW, ABC, CBS & FOX as part of “Gospel Music”), and creator of the quirky comedy dramedy series “Actors Anonymous Hotline”, which is available in my very own online store. It’s such an empowering feeling to finally be doing my own thing. James has been encouraging me to take this path for years, and I’m so glad I finally listened.
Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
Yes, DREAM, who plays the part of Wisdom on “Actors Anonymous Hotline” and the faith-based spin-off “Sunny Has a Dream”, truly listens to Sunny Love — and, as a result, she truly listens to me. That means the world to me. Her attentiveness helps Sunny’s story come alive and reminds me what it feels like to be truly heard.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I believe I am on my divine path working on “Actors Anonymous Hotline” and spin-offs such as “Sunny Has a Dream”. I may not have millions of followers like other Nickelodeon Stars. I may not yet have billions of people even taking the time to put a simple heart on my posts, but in my heart I believe wholeheartedly there is purpose in this project and that it’s what God would have me do. I’m not chasing numbers, I’m answering a call.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
I Am.
