Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Jeffrey Halpern of Northern New Jersey

We recently had the chance to connect with Jeffrey Halpern and have shared our conversation below.

Jeffrey, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
My first 90 minutes are very routine. My wife and I wake up at 5:30am. I print the crossword puzzle and make our morning coffee while she gets ready for her job. When she comes downstairs, we drink our coffee and complete the crossword puzzle, then tackle the NYT games. Once complete, my wife finishes getting ready as we talk about our upcoming day. When she leave for work, I will either go for a 5-mile walk or work out in my basement, unless it is a Thursday, of which I attend my BNI networking meeting. From there, I get ready and start my work-day, based on my work schedule that day.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I began my real estate career in 1985 as an agent at The Cirkus Real Estate Group. From there I have listed and sold and managed real estate offices which encompassed recruiting and retention. I have also developed training and coaching programs to help agent which lead me to include teaching the licensing course for new agents and those looking to get their NJ Broker’s License, and have begun a tutoring company to assist agents to pass the state exam; all while still listing, selling and leasing, I have now included teaching the licensing course to seniors in high school.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
They were my parents and my father’s parents.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
My biggest discovery was that I learned to believe that everyone fails at something, it’s how you respond that makes you better. And believe there is no real failing it is just a learning experience to get you closer to where you want to be.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Definitely

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I was a good person that helped them. I loved my family.
