Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Jennifer Dixon

Jennifer Dixon shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
For the longest time, I hid in the background because that’s where I felt most comfortable. I rarely showed up on social media—no photos and definitely no videos. That was my safe space. But everything shifted on September 7, 2023. Almost two years ago, God encouraged my heart in a way that felt both gentle and urgent. It was like He gave me a little nudge, whispering, “Come on, Jennifer. Trust me and trust yourself. You can do this. I’m right here with you.” I pressed the record button on my phone and started talking, sharing what I now call a “motivational check-in” with my community. That day, I bravely took a leap of faith and answered the calling God had been placing on my heart. Most importantly, I started to believe in my creative journey.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a cerebral palsy warrior, writer, and survivor dedicated to motivating creatives to believe in themselves, dream boldly, and shine their unique light. Through my brand, JMotivates, I strive to empower them to make a positive impact on the world. What sets JMotivates apart is its foundation in faith and authentic encouragement—my ultimate goal is to make God proud in everything I do by sharing hope and motivation.

In addition to my brand, I run a newsletter on Substack called The Motivational Vibe. There, I support creatives on their personal journeys by offering inspiration, practical advice, and heartfelt tributes to the artists who have influenced and fueled my own path. My story, my work, and my mission are all intertwined in the belief that everyone has a beautiful light to share, and with the right encouragement, they can illuminate the world around them.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
This might sound a little cliche, but God saw me clearly before I could see myself. From the very beginning, He saw every part of me—the dreams I hadn’t yet dared to dream, the light I hadn’t yet learned to shine. He encouraged my heart when doubt clouded my vision and believed in my potential long before I understood it. The woman I am today exists because He never stops pushing me to be the greatest version of myself. Without His gentle nudges to take leaps of faith, I likely would still be hiding behind the scenes, afraid to step into my own power. I am here because of Him, and every step I take is driven by the desire to honor Him and make Him proud.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Not believing in myself enough has been the fear that held me back the most in my life. I grappled with showing up as the person God intended me to be, often doubting my own worth and potential. Throughout my life, many people encouraged me to break out of my shell—they saw the gift inside me even when I couldn’t fully recognize it. I always sensed that God placed an incredible gift within me, but I struggled to unleash it, held back by my own lack of confidence.

Looking back now, I am so proud of how far I have come on this journey. It was not easy to confront those fears and accept my calling, but through faith and perseverance, I began to trust in the purpose God had for me. That belief has been a lifechanging experience, revealing the strength and talents I once thought were out of reach. God definitely knew what He was doing all along—I just had to learn to believe it too.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am committed to showing up for myself and shining my light everywhere I go because God gave me unique gifts and a purpose that no one else can fulfill. Regardless of how long it takes, I will invest time and energy in cultivating my strengths, embracing who I am, and moving forward with intentionality and grace. This commitment is not just about personal success—it is about honoring the potential within me to motivate others, create meaningful impact, and live authentically. No obstacle or delay can deter me, as I understand that perseverance and faith are essential to fulfilling the mission entrusted to me.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I know in my heart of hearts that I am doing what I was born to do, which is to motivate others and share my story for God’s glory. Every one of us has an assignment to fulfill, a unique purpose that aligns with our deepest gifts and passions. For me, that purpose is clear: to be a beacon of hope and encouragement, letting God’s light shine through the work I do. When we embrace what we were truly made for, our efforts resonate beyond ourselves, inspiring others and fulfilling a greater plan. It’s not about following someone else’s expectations or living by external pressures—it’s about answering the call that stirs within our soul.

Each person’s journey is unique, but when we commit to doing what we were born to do—rather than what we were told to do—we unlock a powerful testimony that can move others toward their own calling. Let your purpose work be a reflection of the light within you and watch how it transforms not only your life but the lives of those you touch.
