Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with John Grenn of South, private mini-studio.

John Grenn shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning John, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Making music is the best thing to keep me locked in the present moment as a healthy and productive escape from the rest of life.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is John Grenn, and I am a Music Producer, Songwriter, and releasing artist with many releases on popular streaming platforms and other outlets. I make primarily Electronic Pop music, but also have some all-original Country releases. I am constantly generating new music and currently have a backlog of 14 singles that I am working through to get ready for release.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
I think my relationship with my daughter is the most profound relationship that I have had in my life. When she came along, it changed how I saw myself and my role in life. I feel such a profound sense of responsibility and devotion to her.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
For sure, many times, but they were fleeting thoughts, and I always persevered. I think that’s part of the process and journey to have those moments and overcome them. Never give up!

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
My (much younger) mentor, Kamil R., from the great Polish EDM act Diviner’s, He provides valuable feedback on my mixes and production that really helps elevate my final sound. It is difficult to remain fully objective through the process, and you can miss things, sometimes fairly glaring things. So, to have someone who you truly trust who themself has a Gold record to their name, that help is really valuable. I believe in continuous improvement, and having him involved always pushes me in a really good way.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That “he was a good man, a caring and loving father, and a pretty decent music producer” : )
