We recently had the chance to connect with Joseph DeVito and have shared our conversation below.
Joseph , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Are you walking a path—or wandering?
Both, simultaneously. I’m a bit of a freebird and quite disciplined too. I appreciate the balance actually as it does work for me most of the time.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Well in short I’m an actor. Mostly television and film. Grew up in New York but lived in several other states. I’m a bit of a nomad. Every few years I like to reboot my visual world. It’s pretty exciting, the change you know. New places, people and different traditions. So many new things to learn when you hit the road. I feel stagnant after living in a place for too long. These days I split my time between NYC and the western Catskills. Again, balance.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
Common sense took the reigns on that one. You see people working three jobs just to skate by with their bills. They have a family and are content to care of them. And then there are unemployed characters complaining constantly. And then there are high energy positive folks doing what they love because they believe and have standards. I saw these happenings and picked up all of these traits at one time or another. Your mind carries programs.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Prepare and learn everything. Or as much as you can of course. Be resourceful. Work with your hands and rely on yourself as much as possible.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
It’s always that strong quiet person that once in a while shares some wisdom. I always listen and take what I can from those priceless gifts..
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I believe I’m doing what I was born to do. But that took a lot of time to understand. At the end of the day we are humans trying to be human but no one knows how to do it right so…. Just have a good time with everyone.
