We’re looking forward to introducing you to Josh Schneider. Check out our conversation below.
Josh, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
All of these are important qualities, but I think integrity is the most valuable. I’ve heard integrity described as “who you are, while no one’s watching” & I always liked that. Seems to be the foundation of most decent relationships as well.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Josh Schneider. I am a career Tattooer, a have been working since 1999. My shop is called New Romantic Tattoo in East Hollywood CA. We offer one of a kind tattoos, & come from a counter culture aesthetic of film, music & art as our core inspiration.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My high school art teacher Ms Gallagher passed away during my senior year. She had me as a student for years, & gave me the freedom to create, only really telling me what medium to use for various projects. A lot of people regarded her as very strict, but if she could see that u really loved art, she would let u do your thing
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
Getting sober shifted my perspective a lot, as well as making me accountable for a lot of my part of my own misery. Taking action instead of blaming others for my problems was a game changer, Once I got out of my own way, the floodgates of ideas & creativity seemed to open
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Humor, consistency & honesty probably. As well as good taste in music, film & cats🖤
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I truly believe I was born to be a Tattooer. The combination of one on one bonding, art & music/therapy is not something all people can pull off. I love it more every year, so that’s how I know it’s what I’m meant to be doing
