Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Kahra of Miami

We recently had the chance to connect with Kahra and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Kahra, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’m reading a book that speaks about being in each moment to fully experience and observe the surrounding world. To not let the mind dwell too much on the past or worry about the future that you miss the gifts of the present moment. I’m not saying that it isn’t important to analyze a past performance to see how you could have done it better or to mentally prepare for one coming up, what I’m speaking of is the over analytical mind that can continue repeating the same bad feelings. Also to perhaps refrain from repeating a bad experience by talking about it with someone. You relive all of those negative emotions which in turn raises cortisol levels and stress in the body. Of course I’m not speaking about if you have a current ongoing issue and need advice or action. I wrote a song about this called “Broken Record” & another song about finding calmness and wholeness in “Remember Moments”. Just reading a book in bed before turning off the lamp is a cozy moment that gives joy.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Kahra, a small business owner of Karamark Publishing for editing (novels/video), writing (songs, flyers, books, campaign jingles), performance (impersonations, characters, hosting, singing, dancing), and teaching (voice/piano) in groups or private setting for over 10 years. I have experience teaching from theatre groups to the School of Rock. I’ve been in multiple acoustic groups and rock bands as well as perform original music solo. I have consistently released original music to online streaming platforms since their beginning as well as I still have music on CD’s I’m selling. I’m also a prolific performer and have consistent weekly gigs more than anyone I know. Sometimes it surprises me when I hear famous people saying, I haven’t performed in two years”. For me, it’s usually two days Lol. What keeps my numbers up is my ability to chameleon into what each client is looking for without ego. It’s about the service you are giving to highlight the qualities of those around you making them feel special.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a young child, all was free. Then came the teenage years when I became perhaps shy and withdrawn because of caring about the judgements of others. I now understand that what other people think of you is none of your business. What others see in you is what they see in themselves. Everyone is tainted with the rose colored glasses of their own experiences that they project onto you. True freedom lies in simply living your truth and listening the the sound of your own drum. I see it all of the time in clients how their expectation becomes reality. I can have an amazing performance where everything goes perfectly, but then later that day a second performance where things go wrong. I wish people really knew just how powerful the projections of the mind are. Clear your mind, clean up your life.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t worry, be happy! You will never stop playing and will not have to “grow up”. You can be all kinds of characters from a superhero to princess and villains while being looked up to by today’s youth. They need someone to pay attention to them and play with from the adult space. Besides children’s birthday parties, I’ve done entertainment for people in senior communities and rehab facilities taking them back to a time when they too were young. Perhaps sparking a moment out of the confines of their current situation. You will make a positive impact on others as you grow your own soul.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I do have a lifelong commitment to the production of music, and pursuit of the perfect performance making each the best it can be. I believe that my original music is an untapped resource and something unique despite the fact that music releases have expanded exponentially. It can be creatively stifling to think of the power AI has, as it simulates and mocks the best humans offer. However, nothing can replace our unique experiences and the heartfelt expression of an unmodified song. No robot can truly feel human emotion. This is why the devil is said to be jealous of God’s divine creation.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
The concept of a name is interesting. It is said demons don’t want you to know their name because then they can be controlled. I have found that I’ve detached from my own name after years of having to respond to people calling me by the character I’m portraying. For example, “Elsa!” “Ariel!” “Marilyn!” “Ms Rachel!” and it’s such a beautiful thing because the ego is gone. Although the Egyptian meaning of my name is quite fitting as it means the Spirit (Ka) of the Sun (Ra). I also know I am not my role, as my role changes sometimes very drastically even in one day. We are not our possessions as they are here for functionality and heart, but we certainly leave them upon death. I believe what remains is what we have learned from our experiences. This is why it’s important to live in the physical world even more than the digital world, for that world is cold robbing the soul of experiencing to understand the bodily senses and how to interact with others.
