We recently had the chance to connect with Kaitlyn Unger and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaitlyn, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
This past summer, I welcomed my second child, and with that beautiful change, my business has entered a new season too. My priorities have shifted. Right now, I’m a stay-at-home mom first and a business owner second. That means my workdays look very different from how they used to.
On the days I do work, I start the morning getting ready before our babysitter arrives. I then dive into focused, uninterrupted work for about three hours, whether that’s design projects, client meetings, or admin tasks. Somewhere in there, I pause to nurse my daughter and help her settle down for a nap.
After the babysitter leaves, I shift fully into “mom mode.” My kids and I love going on little adventures, visiting local farms, parks, or cozy coffee shops. At home, we cook together, tidy up, and even do workouts together. In the evenings, once my husband finishes work, we all eat dinner, play, and read books before bed.
If I have a bit of work left or want some downtime, I’ll squeeze that in once the baby is asleep. My husband and I usually wind down with a show or some reading before calling it a night. It’s a busy rhythm, but it’s full of purpose, and I’m thankful for the flexibility my business gives me in this season.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Absolutely! I’m Kaitlyn Unger, the owner and designer behind KTU Designs LLC, a website, editorial, and graphic design business serving small to mid-sized companies. I started my business in 2020 during the pandemic, a season that unexpectedly opened the door to pursuing design full-time. What began as a “test run” quickly grew into a true calling, and today it’s a business that I absolutely love.
What makes KTU Designs unique is the heart behind it. As a solopreneur, every project receives my full attention, creativity, and care. I specialize in bringing my clients’ existing brand identities to life through beautifully functional websites and impactful marketing assets. I want their online presence to feel like them—clear, inviting, strategic, and aligned with their mission. I also offer SEO services to help small businesses increase visibility, attract the right clients, and truly grow.
What I’m most passionate about is serving others through my work. My faith is the foundation of my business, and I aim to honor God by showing integrity, thoughtfulness, and encouragement in everything I do. Whether I’m designing a website, writing SEO strategies, or creating editorial pieces, my goal is always to equip business owners with tools that not only look great but genuinely help them thrive.
Right now, I’m focusing on refining my services, supporting my long-term clients, and slowly easing back into work after welcoming my second child. It’s a beautiful season of balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve businesses in a way that aligns with both my gifting and my family life.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that has shaped me the most is my relationship with God. My identity is ultimately found in Him, and that truth influences every part of my life – how I view myself, how I love my family, and how I run my business. Knowing that my purpose is to honor Him with the gifts He’s given me brings both clarity and peace. It impacts every decision I make, from the way I serve clients to the way I balance motherhood and work. I’m constantly reminded that the work I do isn’t just for me—it’s an opportunity to reflect His character through excellence, integrity, and compassion.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me dependence…on God, not myself. While success often tempts us to believe we have control, it’s in the hardest seasons that I’ve most clearly seen God’s hand at work. Whether it was financial uncertainty, creative burnout, or the emotional toll of balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship, those challenges revealed just how much I need His wisdom, provision, and grace.
Running my business, KTU Designs, through these valleys taught me to let go of the pressure to “have it all together” and instead anchor my work in service, trust, and obedience. It reminded me that my work isn’t just about building websites. It’s about stewarding the gifts God’s given me to support others in their calling, too. I truly believe He uses our brokenness to birth something beautiful, not just in our lives, but in the impact we have on others.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would probably say that I care deeply about people: showing up for them, encouraging them, and helping them feel seen and supported. Whether it’s family, friends, clients, or even strangers, I try to lead with kindness, generosity, and intentionality in everything I do.
They’d also say that my faith in Christ is at the center of my life. It shapes how I show up as a wife, mom, friend, and business owner. I want everything I do, especially through my work with KTU Designs, to reflect a heart of service and a desire to honor God. I care about doing good work, but more than that, I care about doing it with integrity and compassion.
And of course, they’d probably throw in how much I love a good iced coffee, a meaningful conversation, and making things beautiful, whether it’s a website, a room, or a handwritten note!
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Absolutely. Earlier in my journey, I reached milestones that I thought would bring deep fulfillment, more clients, higher revenue, and a fully booked calendar. And while those things were exciting and even affirming for a moment, they didn’t bring the lasting satisfaction I expected. The truth is, achievements lose their shine quickly if they aren’t rooted in something deeper.
Through that realization, God gently reminded me that my identity isn’t found in business success or productivity, but in Him alone. There’s nothing wrong with ambition or hard work. He designed me with those desires, but I’ve learned that true contentment only comes when my priorities are aligned with His will.
Now, I still set goals and celebrate progress, but I hold them more loosely. My business is a tool I use to serve others and glorify God—not a source of identity or worth. And that shift in perspective has brought the peace and satisfaction I was searching for all along.
