Kathi Muhammad shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Kathi, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I have spoken to many people particularly women and I find that many are struggling with the stress of heartache, unexpected addition household and work responsibility that they never thought they would have. Women raising their grandchildren, being a caregiver for a family member or divorce. They struggle silently instead of seeking the help of a therapist or counselor. They carry the burden secretly not allowing anyone to know how it is affecting them mentally and physically.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I have always wanted to act. I revised the Wizard of Oz script and starred in the play as the Wicked Witch in the 6th grade. I joined the drama club in high school and college. After I retired, I wanted to rekindle my love of acting. I researched talent agents in my area. I auditioned and was accepted as a client. I have appeared in a variety industrials, television shows, plays, commercials, public service announcements, films and web series. I began my acting career in 2017. In 2020, I made my theatrical debut in When Boys Exhale. I reprised my role in Atlanta in April 2022. I am a frequent guest host on the 4 Sisters Live Show. I am the founder and CEO of a nonprofit organization, Serving Women Across Generations (SWAG). A member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and a lifetime member of Sisters 4 Sisters Network. In 2024 I received an honorary PHD in Humane Letters for the work that I have done in the community for over 30 years. I am an Associate Producer and I have a lead role in a new short comedy entitled Broken Down and Bougie. It will premiere in November 2025. I have received the Top 10 Actress award for the District, Maryland and Virginia. In 2023 and the Best Supporting Actress award for 2023 and 2024. I also a brand ambassador for a local boutique Inspired Designs. I have co- authored of 2 books, Daily Dose of Declarations, and the Power of Sisterhood. I serve as a board member for Open my Heart Foundation, a non profit organization whose mission is to prevent heart disease in women of color. Health is very important. I am a Hydro spin instructor. My family brings me joy. I am grateful and thankful to live my best life.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I began to see the world as a place to explore. My friends and I went to Las Vegas and we decided to take a trip to the Grand Canyon. It was magnificent. Awe inspiring. I stood on the top of it taking in this natural wonder of the world. I decided then and there that I was going to see the world and take in all the beauty that it possesses. I was going to be an adventurer.
Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
My brother passed away on September 1, 2024 and I miss him. Of course people understand that I miss him but they don’t know why. He had a strong belief in me and my abilities. He was my cheerleader and counselor. I miss his advice and his support. He was my best friend and he understood me like no one else ever will.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes I am the same in public and at home. I think it is too difficult and stressful to mask who you really are. I am comfortable in the skin that I am in and I couldn’t imagine trying to pretend.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What will you regret not doing?
My motto is don’t have regrets. I have determined that fear causes regret in many people. Its the what ifs, the i don’t know and the it could go left that holds people captive. It is all about your attitude and having a positive mindset. There is nothing that I will regret not doing because I will not let fear hold me back from an experience or an adventure that I want to have. I have found on the other side of fear is freedom.
