Hi Kaylon , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My church, I am apart of my church serve team and being able to be apart of ways to serve others and bring a smile to their face brings a smile to mine.
I have a really amazing church family so being able to be present with them and giving God praise all in one brings me an ample amount of joy.
Another thing is getting some where quiet and reading my favorite book. I pair that with the wondeful adventure of finding a new and delicious restaurant in Dallas has been one of my favorite things lately. I get to catch up on my favorite stories while exploring new places in the city and get some great eats!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kaylon Williams, and I am a Dallas-based children’s author with a passion for advocating for representation in literature. As the author of I See Me and Where Are We?, I have the opportunity to create empowering stories that celebrate diversity and inspire young readers to embrace their limitless potential. Through company KLX Online Bookstore, I am able to foster a love for reading and imagination, offering inclusive stories that ensure every child sees themselves reflected in the pages they turn.
I never thought going from the world of professional athletics, things would come back full circle and I’d get the opportunity to turn another one of my loves into a business but I am so extremely grateful and blessed to be able to do so. In addition help kids fall in love with reading and help them along their reading journey.
Currently I am working on my third book and actively traveling for KLX online bookstore book tour, where I get the chance to read my stories to kids all across the country. I am loving being able to read the books the kids in their schools, learning centers etc. It’s been a wonderful experience so far.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
That I could be a power puff girl, hahaha hey, what can I say, blame the over active imagination.
But seriously, I believed that I couldn’t take up room. I had to be small in order to fit in. That’s farthest from the truth, that I am ALLOWED to take up as much room as I need and leave a whatever space I’m in better than it was when I stepped in. I love that I stand out, on purpose I might add and being able to help kids understand that and encourage them to live outside the box because they were never meant to fit there in the first place, is something I’m so happy I can do.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You are worth it:)
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
My best friend, I admire her vibrant personality, the way she can light up a room and make the most introverted person feel seen.
She’s courageous in more ways than I can count and she’s really amazing at pouring into those around her with her words and making you feel like you can conquer anything. As I’ve gotten older, I cherish all of those qualities in her and. Never take them for granted.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
My faith, I know without God I have nothing, nor am I nothing without him. So knowing that because of his grace, I have everything that I need. All the rest of it doesn’t really matter at the end of the day, long as I have him.
