Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Keishia Lewis-Crabtree of Dfw

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Keishia Lewis-Crabtree. Check out our conversation below.

Keishia, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me right now is me walking in blind faith lol I mean getting up every morning and just keeping the faith. Thankful that the floor is still underneath me! Life is life’n!!!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Keishia Lewis-Crabtree, and I’m the owner and creative force behind Fish Trap’n, a Dallas-born brand that’s serving up catfish and culture with a trap-house twist. What started with a single fryer under a tent has grown into a movement that blends Southern comfort with street energy, bold flavor, real hustle, and a story people feel before they even take a bite.

Fish Trap’n is more than a restaurant,it’s a reflection of faith, resilience, and the power of staying true to where you come from. Every “Fat Cat” fillet, “Pop-A-Cat” nugget, and “Wet Wing Wednesday” special carries a piece of that story. We’ve built something that speaks to the culture, unapologetically authentic, rooted in community, and proof that good food can move people the same way good music does.

Today, I’m focused on expanding our reach, growing our catering program, launching a food truck, and creating systems that turn the Fish Trap’n brand into a lasting legacy. My mission is to show that you can start from the bottom, bet on yourself, and still build something that feeds both the people and the purpose.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that has served its purpose and must now be released is the version of me that built everything from survival mode. That mindset got me here, the long nights, doing it all myself, proving I could make something out of nothing. But now, that same survival energy is heavy. It keeps me busy when I need to be strategic, guarded when I need to be open, and tired when I should be leading from overflow.

It’s time to release the version of me that only knew how to grind, and embrace the woman who knows how to grow, with structure, peace, and purpose. I’ve learned that strength isn’t just about pushing through, it’s about trusting that I no longer have to fight for what I’ve already earned.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell her, “You were never behind, you were being built.” Every tough season, every quiet grind, every time you had to make something out of nothing was preparing you for this. You weren’t lost, you were being shaped for leadership, for legacy, for impact.

And I’d remind her, “You ain’t crazy, you chosen.” The pressure wasn’t punishment, it was training. God was seasoning you for the table you were meant to build. You were never too much, they just couldn’t see purpose that big yet. Hold your head high, stay prayed up, and know that everything you went through made you this unstoppable version of yourself.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They’d say what really matters to me is purpose over popularity. I care about building something real, not just a brand, but a legacy that feeds people’s souls as much as their stomachs. They know I move with faith first, family close, and loyalty tight.

My friends would tell you I don’t chase attention, I chase impact. I want my work, my words, and my food to remind people that it’s possible to come from the struggle and still build something beautiful. I care about growth, integrity, and showing up as the same person in every room, real, rooted, and ready to serve.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope the story they tell is that I never folded, that no matter what hit me, I kept showing up with favor, faith, flavor, and fight. I want people to say I made them feel seen, fed, and inspired to bet on themselves.

That I didn’t wait for a door to open. I built my own, and then left it cracked for somebody else to walk through. That I loved hard, gave freely, and turned pain into purpose every single time.

When I’m gone, I want them to say, “She lived it for real ,she didn’t just talk legacy, she became it.”
