Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Kerry “Cocky McFly” Nash of North Jackson, MS

We recently had the chance to connect with Kerry “Cocky McFly” Nash and have shared our conversation below.

Kerry “Cocky McFly”, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
What exactly is a normal day? LOL… To be honest it varies from day to day. But the consistent thing I’m going to do daily is start with prayers of thanksgiving, listening to a morning sermon, and having a nice cup of warm tea. It sets the tone for my day and keeps me grounded even when times of chaos present themselves.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kerry “Cocky McFly” Nash. I am the co-creator of The Vibe Controllers, LLC along with my identical twin brother comedian Merc B. Williams. Our brand’s main focus is to create, curate, and promote events around the state of MS, specifically in the city of Jackson to shed a light of positivity on our city and state. Currently, our brand is excited about producing the first ever Mimosa Festival in the city of Jackson called ‘TOAST: Mimosa Festival” being held on Sunday, October 19. Most importantly, a portion of the proceeds from this event are going to benefit The Briarwood Arts Center, which is a community center here in the city of Jackson that provides free arts programming and resources.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
It would definitely have to be the relationship with my mother. She’s always been a driving force and pilar of support in everything I’ve done and accomplished. I truly wouldn’t be where I am or who I am without her guidance and unconditional love.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d say to my younger self that a “slow win is better than a quick loss”. It’s ok to pace yourself. Take your time. Focus. Move forward. If necessary, take a few steps back. But ultimately, take the time you need to reach the intended goal. Your only competition is you!

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Do the work!!!

They can NEVER deny the work!!!

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What will you regret not doing?
I won’t regret not doing anything. God’s timing is perfect. Everything happens when it’s supposed to.
