We recently had the chance to connect with Kieara Celina and have shared our conversation below.
Kieara, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, content creation has been my biggest source of joy lately. I love using my creativity to teach, connect, and build community.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kieara, and I am a Canadian based Licensed Practical Nurse. I create educational content for nurses – especially practical nurses, focused on helping them understand, elevate and fully maximize their licenses. In the nursing world, the role of practical nurses is often misunderstood, and many people don’t realize how much we’re actually capable of doing.
Because of that, I have made it my mission to explore unconventional nursing paths, and share valuable insights that support nurses achieving the work-life balance we all deserve.
Canada has far few nursing creators compared to other parts of the world, so I love being able to fill that gap & being able to give LPNs and RNs here a voice, resources, and representation. I also share my personal journey as a cosmetic nurse, travel nurse and educator in health, showing the many different directions a nursing career can take.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a young girl in love with the beauty industry, a dancer, and a singer. I have always been a creative, and having a mother who has been a cosmetologist with her own salon for over 30 years, I grew up watching her, and other beauticians in her shop uplift people’s confidence every single day. That’s when I learned the importance of self care, and started seeing beauty as a form of care, healing and empowerment.
I always dreamed of becoming a cosmetologist too, but was told to go for something “more stable” which ended up pushing me towards my “plan b”, nursing. Luckily, I fell in love with that world as well, and eventually realized that I didn’t have to choose on passion over the other. I discovered cosmetic nursing, a field that lets me merge both sides of who I am.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that has held me back the most in life has definitely been the fear of failure. Growing up, I was never the strongest student, and that shaped the way I saw myself. I often felt incapable, and it led me to second guess my abilities and avoid going after things I wanted.
Nursing school was the turning point for me. From passing my entrance exam to finally graduating, every milestone proved me that I could rise to challenges I once thought were too big for me. That experience boosted my confidence in a way nothing else had. It’s what gave me the courage to start publicly documenting my journey, to move to a new city alone at 23, to start travel nursing & working in cities outside of my own, and to pursue opportunities that people said were ‘too competitive’.
Letting go of that fear has opened many doors, and now, I try to inspire other nurses to do the same, to believe in themselves, to take chances, and to chase the goals that they have been too afraid to claim.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I think a lot of people believe authenticity means being 100% transparent about every part of your life. For me, the parts of my life that I do choose to share are completely real. Whether i’m talking about nursing, content creation, or my personal experiences, everything I share is genuine and true to who I am.
But I wouldn’t say the public version of me is all of me though, because there are parts of myself that I intentionally keep private, not because they aren’t authentic, but because they’re meant for the people closest to me. So yes, the public version of me is real, but it’s not the whole story, and I think that’s healthy.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think the thing people misunderstand about my legacy and that of creators like myself is that we’re ‘just nfluencers’ , that our job is easy. They think we simply get behind the camera and record a quick video that happens to perform well, but in reality, there’s a strategy, planning, education and a lot of hard work that goes into creating meaningful content.
But beyond the work itself, my legacy isn’t about the process, it’s about the impact : helping nurses & other health care workers understand their potential, breaking the misconception about Licensed Practical Nurses, and inspiring others to pursue their passions even when it feels risky or unconventional.
My goal isn’t just about personal success, it’s about opening doors and changing perspectives for others.
