Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Kristina Lucia Pezza of Manhattan/ Brooklyn

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kristina Lucia Pezza. Check out our conversation below.

Kristina Lucia , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. When was the last time you felt true joy?
I felt true joy this July when I had a beach weekend with my niece and nephew. We had the most amazing two days that I could ask for. These children are so loving and I love them so much! My nephew insisted I sit next to him at every meal which made my day. Those several hours on the beach with him taking long walks and playing in the waves were truly the best.
These days brought me true joy because I felt so present in the moment. I was focused simply on spending time with them and caring for them. It’s moments like these that I am forever grateful for.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an award wining artist and best selling author of the children’s book series- Bella Lucia Book Series.
All the books, toys, and coloring printables I create are low stimulation as the mission of my brand is improving communication through the recognition and identification of feelings within both ourselves and others. In each book we see Bella Elephant learn to work through her feelings in each story. As a result she overcomes various challenges and creates a ripple effect that touches the members of her community.

Having grown up in an environment where there was no communication or understanding of feelings, I was inspired to create resources that allow individuals to further develop both their communication patterns and emotional awareness. Strong communication patterns and emotional awareness allow us to connect with each other on a deeper level and have true conversations with each other.

Currently, book 15 of the series in production and I am working on two alternate versions of the series in the background too.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The moment that really shaped me was when I was injured in 2018 and everything paused. This injury required a surgery followed by a long, slow recovery. I had to take a medical leave from my Wall Street job, higher help, and rely on the kindness of others when possible.
This slow down gave me time to reflect and view the patterns of my life. I realized that I was leaving a double life and my art was in the shadows. As an overachiever, I took full advantage of my medical leave and began to take my first steps toward a career pivot.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Keep going. It is ok to be different. It is ok to ask questions. You are not supposed to be perfect on the first try of any skill or transition. You are brave and deserved to be loved. If someone can not see your value, allow them to walk away and keep seeking people who will see your value in a moment.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They would say it is showing up as my authentic self. Being true to my values and demonstrating this quality in all aspects of my life.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
My insight. I tend to see things in a way that is adaptable to multiple situations.
