We’re looking forward to introducing you to LaTanya Booker. Check out our conversation below.
Hi LaTanya, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity is really important because it’s the foundation of trust and respect in every part of life—personal, professional, and spiritual. It proves character—and character is what people value most when deciding who to trust, love, or follow.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?

I am a serial entrepreneur with a passion for growth, learning, and building meaningful connections with like-minded individuals. I thrive on networking, collaborations and creating opportunities that uplift others. I am grounded in my faith, God-fearing and purpose-driven. Beyond business, I am a music lover, a foodie who enjoys exploring new restaurants, and a strong supporter of small businesses in my community.
I am currently working of a few projects. The only one that can really speak on right now would be the “Dis & Dat w/ Boss Lady Tee” Podcast that will be airing soon on all major podcast platforms. The podcast topics and focus will be to feature local small businesses and to talk about the everyday lives, business frustrations, business wins, things that we have learned and so forth.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My paternal grandfather, James Brown. My grandfather always pushed me to do things that I wasn’t comfortable doing. It started with participating in a school spelling bee that I didn’t think I was smarter enough to win to singing solos at several different churches in and around our community. I remember telling him that I would be singing at my high school graduation in front of the entire school and an audience of parents, students and community officials, he was so proud. After my graduation service, he hugged me and told me “you are going to bring this family out of bondage, you’re going to face many trials and tribulations but don’t stop, trust God and stay the course.” It wasn’t until I was well into adulthood that I understood what that meant. This is what I have come up with as to what my Grandfather James meant:
Breaking Cycles – I am the one chosen to break negative generational patterns (like poverty, abuse, debt, addiction, broken relationships, or lack of faith).
Generational Shift – My actions, faith, and decisions won’t just affect me—they’ll set a new standard and open new opportunities for me, my children, grandchildren, and beyond.
Spiritual Responsibility – Bondage can mean spiritual oppression, sin, or lack of freedom. He saw me as the one God will use to shift our family into healing, freedom, and abundance.
Leadership & Legacy – I am a leader in my bloodline who will create a legacy of hope, prosperity, and faith. Future generations may benefit from the sacrifices I make today.
Empowerment – It’s both a prophecy and a challenge: I have the strength and calling to step into a role of change-maker, even if it’s difficult, and even if no one before me has done it.
And I work each and everyday with the end in mind, to be the woman that my grandfather saw in me when I was still so young with absolutely no life experience.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
I haven’t had the best life. From childhood traumas to poor adult decisions. It wasn’t until I was in a really bad relationship where there was a lot of domestic abuse. With that abuse came a few attempts of suicide, depression, self doubt, the loss of jobs and a lot of pain. After getting the strength and the coverage to move on… I had nothing and had to start over in a city where I didn’t know anyone. In the beginning of reestablishing my life in Dallas, Texas, my mother became really ill and I found myself packing up again and moving back to Virginia. Still not having anything, I was still broke, busted and disgusted. I had nothing. With my background being in education and insurance, I had to wait for background checks and licenses to get transferred in systems before I could find a good job. I was living on my savings and that was dwindling fast. My car was repossessed, my sister who I was living with, moved, which left me with looking for a space and I felt like all hope was lost. I was jobless, carless and homeless. But God. Long story short, I was invited to go to church with a young lady that I had met when I was out with my sister one day. I had not been to church in a minute, so I said…it couldn’t hurt. So that’s when I was introduced to Kingdom Life Church. The church was so welcoming and inviting and I felt right at home. I went a few times but didn’t have transportation so I watched online. But I prayed and I told God if he blessed me with a car that I would go to church every Sunday.
That’s when the HEALING started. I got a job, found an apartment with a roommate and I got a car and started to attend Kingdom Life Church, every Sunday. A few Sunday’s in, I became a Partner, started joining the morning prayer calls, joined WIN (Women of Influence), started working in the children’s ministry but most importantly I got connected. The Leaders and the people of KL especially our Pastors, Anthony and Atina Johnson are amazing. Through the Sunday messages, going to gatherings and leadership conferences and just fellowshipping and learning from everyone has truly been a blessing. and helping me to heal from all my past traumas. I have learned so much about myself and how amazing God is.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
God, myself, family and community and church family…in that order. I love the Lord and nobody can change my mind about it. I have been through so much in my life and over and over again he has brought me through and out of things that I thought were going to kill me.
Myself – there was a time when I didn’t love myself. It was hard for me to not only love myself but I couldn’t seem to find a reason to live.
Family – For as long as I can remember, I took care of my family. If I had it and they needed it, it was theirs. I would give them the clothes off my back if need be.
My community and church family – I love being out in the community meeting new people and possibly networking so that I can support where I can. And I absolutely love my KL church family. I have never seen a group of people who genuinely love and care for you and those around you. We have a saying at KL “we don’t do life alone” and trust me they mean it.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people would tell of my strong work ethic, my love for teaching and and guiding children over the last thirty years. I hope my clients will say how helpful I was to their family and that it wasn’t for the money but the love and care of people. I hope people would say that I was a God fearing woman who did’nt mind helping people in and around her community.
