Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Maddi Goodes of Victoria, Australia

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Maddi Goodes. Check out our conversation below.

Maddi, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Since having my own business I try and start my days with consistency and routine, up early, in the gym or moving my body in some capacity, come inside make my breakfast and get myself ready for the day. If im feeling active and motivated I will typically do tidy up and put some washing on. THEN I can sit down to emails and start the day

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Maddi. I am the owner at The Energy Therapist, I am a Reiki master and kinesiologist. I have had my business for over three years now and have been receiving holistic healing for over 15 years, so I absolutely love it. I got into all things woo woo in my teenage years which created an interest in psychics, spirituality, energy work and anything in between that was intriguing. My journey to becoming The Energy Therapist started when I was about 20 years old, I was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma and ended up having six rounds of chemotherapy and 10 rounds of radiation therapy. Since my medical journey so early, I developed a fascination and interest in the human body and all things natural or holistic. I’m obsessed with seeing people thrive after their traumatic experiences whether that be emotional, physical, medical or spiritual.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I have always felt that my life was going to be powerful and that I was put here for a big purpose, I’ve always had a big voice and the confidence to stand my ground on any of my beliefs. I grew up in a single Mum family, my Mum from a young age always told us kids we could do anything, be anything and have anything in our lives if we truly wanted it.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I believe pain comes in many shapes and sizes, and also has many layers. I think when I started my business there was the ego side of me that held me back a lot due to concern of what people would think or say, especially around social media and putting myself out there. I would say over the past 12 months since early 2024 was when I did a lot of work around what other people thought and gave myself permission to be vulnerable and show people why I am in this profession. Medical trauma, family trauma, inner child works and all the shadow bits! I harnessed these into power but also a passion to help other people.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is composed, poised, and professional. However, deep down I use sarcasm as humour, and can be very witty. I used to get called weird a lot growing up, and I found that to be a complete insult. Now I think it’s a compliment!! I am unique, interesting, and I feel people are drawn to my energy because of that.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
Most investments are a long game, haha!
But I have recently done a lot of research about longevity for your health, so I am making small changes in my lifestyle to support the longevity of my life. For example I will only drink filtered water, that seems like such a simple no brainer thing to do however, people don’t really consider the water that they are drinking and the effects it could have on your body.
