Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Makeda Diaz of Brooklyn

Makeda Diaz shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Makeda , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I believe integrity guides how we use our intelligence and energy. It ensures ethical decisions, builds trust, and lays the foundation for long-term success. I try to bring this principle into everything I do.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Makeda Diaz, and I am the CEO of QueenoftheYoni, a brand dedicated to holistic feminine health for women of all colors. I’ve supported women worldwide in healing from conditions like fibroids, endometriosis, cervical cancer, infertility, and other common feminine health issues.

What sets QueenoftheYoni apart is our focus on the mind and soul as well as the body. Through positive affirmations expressed in art, we help women internalize empowering messages, while also shining a spotlight on other talented artists — creating a vibrant community of healing and inspiration.

We’re thrilled to launch our first eBook, packed with tips on herbal remedies, yoni practices, menstrual cycle tracking, and healing techniques like meditation and massage. Designed to help women reconnect with their bodies and embrace their “divine feminine” energy, it nurtures well-being on every level: physical, emotional, and spiritual.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I should be, I trusted my curiosity and creativity. I followed my intuition, explored boldly, and dreamed without limits. Reconnecting with my original self, the one who trusts her own voice, is where true strength and authenticity begin.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me what success never could: it showed me resilience. It helped me stand tall even when life tries to knock me down, to keep believing in myself, and to keep moving forward. It reminded me to breathe hope into every moment, to dream, and to live fully.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire Beyoncé not for her fame or influence, but for her character. She demonstrates resilience, integrity, and a commitment to excellence, using her platform thoughtfully and intentionally. Her courage, authenticity, and dedication to her craft make her an inspiring figure beyond any measure of power.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
People sometimes assume my legacy was a stroke of luck. The reality is far from it. It was built one decision, one risk, and one day of hard work at a time. Being an entrepreneur means showing up, even when the odds are stacked against you.
