Maya Elizabeth shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Maya, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I typically avoid talking to anyone but my Nespresso machine and Jesus in the first 90 min of my day 😂. I’m a pretty routine person in a lot of ways. When I develop a system that works, I stick to it. So, when I wake up, I get out of bed to pee, wash my face, brush my teeth, put my glasses on and take my vitamins. Then I head to the kitchen to make my coffee and grab a protein bar. I sit, sip, and reflect. I try to look at YouVersion’s verse of the day before opening any texts or social media. Sometimes I’ll listen to an inspirational podcast, sermon, or calming spa music and I might journal some thoughts before getting on with the day.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey there! Maya Elizabeth here! I’m a singer-songwriter, artist, mentor, 2025 Telly Award winner, + a DC Chapter Governor at the Recording Academy. My inspirational-soul music helps listeners experience healing.truth.+love. I’m also the co-creator of an extraordinarily impactful Mental Health concert series, “From M.E. To You.” Songwriting since 6 yrs old, my music now reaches a global audience with themes like building self-esteem, coping with anxiety, empowering women + owning your unique voice!
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Offenses and broken trust destroy people’s bonds. Proven trustworthiness, forgiveness, and empathy can restore those broken bonds over time—but, both parties have to be willing to own their part in the offense and grow into healthier people.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I battle an interconnected, multilayered fear that boils down to rejection. It shows up in perfectionism, people pleasing, procrastination, and even avoidance. These struggles are not uncommon in the human experience, so I’m no anomaly in that regard. I’ve learned, though, to practice doing and saying the brave thing so you can prove to yourself your ability to survive even the worst potential outcome. I’ve spoken up or pushed forward through fear and experienced both extreme relief and immediate regret, but I’ve survived and grown from both outcomes.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Lie: I can’t charge this amount because I’ll lose potential clients/ticket sales.
Truth: You can charge whatever your product/knowledge/experience is worth if you meet a genuine need and sell the VALUE with honest intentions.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m most honest with myself.
