We’re looking forward to introducing you to Meagan Lamontine. Check out our conversation below.
Meagan, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
The changing of the season! I love the fall colors and watching the leaves gradually change from green to orange, yellow, and in between! The crisp morning air is so refreshing too.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Meagan Lamontine. I am a photographer based out of Northern Colorado (where I primarily do photoshoots). I began photographing way back in 2011 taking photos at concerts in Denver. I then moved on to more traditional types of photography- like weddings, families, senior photos, and the like. I am now focused on creative photography and thinking outside of the box. Photography, to me, is about making art, collaborating with other creatives and creating something new and meaningful.
Right now I am working on an ongoing project called “Feminine Rage”. I have had five women collaborate with me for this project so far. Each of them brought their own unique view based on the prompt I gave. My goal is to continue with this project and create a project that I can display in a brick and mortar art gallery.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
The person who saw me clearly before I could see myself was my grandma. She knew my heart and knew my strength. I believe that she understood me better than anyone and I could talk to her about anything. She was there by my side from the time I was born and as I got older, she and I were best friends.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, I just graduated from UNC with a bachelor’s in forensic chemistry. Those classes were tough. There were plenty of times during my time in school where I thought “this is crazy”, “what am I doing”, “I should just quit”. But every time I had thoughts of quitting, I felt within that would be the wrong choice. When I seriously considered quitting, I would feel that there was something stopping me. I just knew that to quit would be wrong and that I could manage the stress and finish what I started. It was hard, but overall, I truly enjoyed learning and the sense of accomplishment I got from passing tough classes.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
I believe that most people wear masks in public to hide their true selves. I am one of them. I absolutely have a different version of myself when I am at work versus with friends versus at home with my husband and cats. I try to live an authentic life and be myself as much as I can, but professionalism and comfort levels also dictate those levels of authenticity.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If immortality were real, what would you build?
If immortality were real, I would build an art gallery that would display up and coming female photographers. I’d keep building my skills as a photographer and keep making art that inspires people for generations.
