We recently had the chance to connect with Mia Proctor and have shared our conversation below.
Mia , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: When was the last time you felt true joy?
I felt true joy this morning, sitting outside in the stillness of nature. As I grounded my bare feet to the earth, a wave of peace and remembrance moved through me. The wind whispered, the birds sang, and for a moment, I felt completely held by Spirit and the land. I wasn’t thinking about the past or reaching for the future, I was simply being. In that sacred pause, I felt my ancestors near. Joy revealed itself as presence. As breath. As a blessing.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Mia Moon, and I am a vessel for healing, remembrance, and transformation. I am the founder of Mia Moon Creations, a sacred space rooted in ancestral wisdom, sound healing, energy work, and creative expression. My journey began as a personal search for healing and turned into a calling — to guide others back to themselves, back to the Earth, and back to the moon’s rhythms.
At Mia Moon Creations, I offer Reiki sessions and trainings, sound healing ceremonies, shamanic practices, moon gatherings, workshops, and a growing line of spiritual tools including candles, teas, and oracle-inspired creations. Each offering is intuitively crafted and grounded in reverence for my African and Indigenous (Piscataway) lineage, the land I walk on, and the energies that guide me.
What makes this work unique is that it’s not just a business; it’s a living altar. Every session, every product, every circle is a portal. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all healing; I believe in honoring the soul’s unique path, timing, and power.
Right now, I’m birthing The Moon Mystics Circle, a sacred membership community aligned with lunar cycles, ritual, and deeper healing. I’m also launching my candle line, Sacred Glow by Mia Moon, infused with intention, herbs, crystals, and channeled affirmations — created to support transformation in daily life.
Everything I offer is a prayer, a remembering, and an invitation to come home — to your body, your truth, and your divine rhythm.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I have always been a wild and tender soul. Someone who felt deeply, loved freely, and found comfort in the rhythms of nature. I was a child always fascinated by nature. My spirit knew freedom. My heart knew kindness. My soul knew power.
But as an Indigenous woman, the world often told me to be quiet. To shrink. To tame my light and soften my truth. It tried to place me in boxes that could never hold the fullness of who I am.
Now, I feel more inspired than ever to remember who I was before the world interrupted. I am reclaiming my voice, my power, and my presence unapologetically. I honor my ancestors by rising. And I honor myself by choosing authenticity over approval.
This isn’t just about me. It’s about inspiring others who look like me to remember the truth of who we are.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell her you are beautiful. You are unique. There is no one else in this world like you and that is your power. Keep shining even when the world tries to dim your light. Your softness is strength. Your spirit is sacred. I love you and I always will.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That you have to be positive all the time. That healing always looks pretty. That these practices are new or trendy. The truth is, much of what is now called “wellness” comes from Indigenous and African traditions. Our ancestors were the original energy workers, herbalists, sound healers, and space holders. These practices were how we built communities and lived in rhythm with the Earth, Spirit, and one another. They are sacred. They are ancient. And they deserve to be honored, not repackaged or watered down.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say I reminded them of what it means to live in truth. That I walked with integrity, honored my ancestors, and stayed close to the Earth and Spirit. I hope they remember how I used my voice, my healing, and my presence to awaken something ancient in others. That I didn’t just build a brand, but a movement. One that helped people reconnect with the land, their power, and the cycles of the moon.
Most of all, I hope people say I made them feel seen. That I created spaces where people who looked like me felt safe, sacred, and celebrated. That I didn’t dim my light and by doing so, I helped others remember how to shine too.
And I hope they remember that I loved with an open heart. That I taught others an open heart is a gift, not a weakness. And that having one doesn’t mean you have to suffer. It means you are alive, connected, and free.
