We recently had the chance to connect with Mike Norris and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mike, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Photography. Photography isn’t my main gig and while it can some times be a job, it’s a very different part of the brain overall. It’s a nice outlet and a chance to slow down and look around.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Cybersecurity by day, photographer by…other days. When I’m behind the lens I will shoot just about anything — wildlife, cars, abandoned buildings, street, landscape, etc. And hopefully soon I’ll be tapping into concert photography! I’m a handful or two of years into this journey now and don’t have any intentions of slowing down — all gas, no brake. Photography for me is one of the things I look forward to most often in terms of extracuricular activities. It’s a chance to get out, be active, and have fun while doing it.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
I can’t recall a single person having a disproportionate influence on work and what work is. In my experience and journey, it really has been a story of many chapters. People and experiences have come and gone. While some chapters were better than others, they all ultimately fulfilled their purpose. Whomever or whatever was present at a point in time, and what they were teaching me, intentional or not, was just at the right place at the right time.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Ask more questions and don’t stop learning.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Family, work, and reputation.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
It depends on the mood but I quite like solitude in various settings….. an early morning blue hour walk that makes way to golden hour in the city, soaking in the sites and sounds. But one can’t forget how equally amazing an early walk in a forest trail in mid-october is, mist, frost, and glistening sun and all.
