Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Monic Reyes

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Monic Reyes . Check out our conversation below.

Hi Monic, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
In the first 90 minutes of my day, I start by hydrating myself, making sure to drink water and take my supplements. After that, I take a moment to pray and express my gratitude to God for all my blessings. Once I feel centered and thankful, I stretch and exercise to get my body moving and energized. Finally, I get ready for the day ahead, feeling refreshed and prepared for whatever comes my way.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Monic Reyes, an artist from San Antonio, Texas. My passion for the arts started at a young age, inspired by my mother and her fashion brand, Malen Reyes Couture. Working as a creative director alongside her allowed me to explore my creativity and build my confidence. Over the years, I’ve embraced various creative disciplines, including photography, set design, and makeup artistry. In 2015, I picked up a paintbrush and began my journey as a painter, becoming a Gallery Representative Artist by 2017. I’ve showcased my work in national galleries and international publications, and I aspire to exhibit my pieces worldwide. My art reflects my imaginative spirit, expressed through bold abstract forms and textures.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
The person who has taught me the most about work is definitely my mom. Growing up, she ran her fashion brand and boutique, and I was lucky enough to co-design with her. Her support and creative energy really instilled in me the values of hard work, creativity, and resilience. From her, I learned not just the technical side of art, but also how important it is to pursue your passions with dedication and confidence. Her influence has truly shaped my artistic journey, and she continues to inspire me every single day.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
One fear that really held me back was the fear of failure. Growing up in such a creative environment, I often felt pressure to meet expectations—both my own and those of the people around me. I worried about not living up to my potential or having the same talent as my mom, which made me hesitant to take risks in my art. I thought that if I put my work out there and it wasn’t well received, it would reflect poorly on me. However, over time, I learned to see that fear as part of the creative process. It pushed me to grow and take bolder steps, helping me pursue my vision with greater confidence. Now, I view failure as an opportunity to learn and evolve rather than something to be afraid of.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I really believe that having faith in yourself can change everything, even if I can’t prove it. I’ve noticed that when I trust my own abilities, it opens up so many opportunities. It’s like a door that swings wide open when you take that leap of faith.

There have been times in my life when I felt unsure or scared, but whenever I pushed through those doubts and believed in myself, amazing things happened. Whether it was going after a dream, tackling a challenge, or just stepping out of my comfort zone, that self-belief made all the difference.

It’s hard to put into words or measure, but I know there’s a strength that comes from within when you truly believe in yourself. It’s a personal truth that guides me, reminding me that with confidence and faith, I can face whatever comes my way.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I believe in giving my best without expecting praise. When I create my work, it’s about my passion and effort, not about seeking recognition. If I know I’ve poured my heart into something, that alone brings me satisfaction. Any recognition that comes my way is a blessing and a beautiful surprise, and I truly am grateful for it every day.

There are also everyday things I do, like praying for all of humanity or supporting charities through my work as best I can, or even making a small donation that can help someone. These are things I don’t always share with others or post on social media for the world to see. I think it’s important to do good for the sake of good, not for applause.

Listening to others and motivating them is something I value as well. It’s rewarding in its own right, and sometimes those quiet acts of kindness can have a bigger impact than any praise could. So yes, I can definitely give my all, regardless of whether anyone notices or not. The more I have grown to know God and create a spiritual connection, the more I find myself doing things out of love.
