Nathan Winans shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Nathan, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
When I’m behind the camera, time slips away. Whether it’s motion unfolding or a moment about to vanish, I get pulled into the rhythm of it all. That’s where I reconnect with myself—inside the flow of turning passing moments into something that lasts.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Nathan Winans, a photographer and filmmaker drawn to the small, often overlooked moments that shape how we remember a place or a feeling. My work is about noticing the details, whether it’s in motion or still, and capturing them in a way that feels honest and immersive. I’m interested in creating images and scenes that linger, moments that feel familiar but seen in a new way, leaving an impression that stays with you.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
During COVID, I realized that my passions for photography and film were more important, and more meaningful, than I’d ever fully appreciated. Focusing on them gave me purpose and a sense of direction when everything else felt uncertain. That period showed me the value of committing to the work I love, and it’s shaped how I approach both my art and the way I see the world.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self to just be yourself. The things you’re passionate about; movies, music, and the way you see the world will start to guide you, and even if you don’t have it all figured out yet, they’ll lead you to places you might not expect.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I believe you can achieve almost anything if you put your mind to it and focus on building your skills, even if you start without much direction or resources. With curiosity, persistence, and consistent effort, you can create opportunities and grow in ways you might not expect.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people remember me as someone who followed his passions, even when they seemed out of reach, and kept pursuing them no matter what.
